I know how to make a rule to turn on a device when motion is detected but how would I make a rule to turn off a device when motion is detected?
One way would be to have a Motion Lighting automation turn on a scene, then, for the scene, capture that light as off. Similar for turning back on for no motion, have that activate another scene that captures the light turned on.
I can think of two kludgy ways:
1: Have a virtual switch controlled by a Simple Automation Rule that when turned on, turns off your desired switch, and visa-versa. Then use the virtual switch in the Motion Lighting Rule.
2: In the Motion Lighting Rule, turn on the switch but set the level to 0.
The better approach would be to use scenes. Use Motion Lighting and on motion activate a scene that turns off the switch. Under "Off options" you'll find a setting that lets you activate another scene when motion ends.

Seems like overcomplicating things with scenes, why not just do it in RM or Simple Automation?
