TP-Link TAPO Issues

TAPO DEVICE WARNING.

TP-Link (TAPO) is apparently updating the security and communications protocol on some of their devices. I strongly suggest you turn off auto firmware update for now to preclude more issues. People are trying to figure it out, but it is a not an easy fix.

You may wish to add “TP-Link” to the title. I would have never known that my son’s mesh routers were TAPO.

TP-LInk has been migrating to a unified interface for thier Smart Home devices. That includes Kasa and TAPO branded products. They have been receiving bad press for security issues. They are now apparently transitioning to a TPAP (type) protocol similar to that used on bitCoin and financial transactions. I was not aware of this extending to their home wifi products (routers and mesh routers). WOW.

Since TP-Link does NOT publish API documents, this may be devastating to users on Home Bridge and Home Assistant and Hubitat. They are also changing the http public key from rsa to the more modern ec keying. A lot of changes coming.
