Time Variables on Dashboard

I base my modes on sunrise and sunset so I want to display those times on my dashboard. I created Hub Variables and just after midnight I set them to the system values of sunrise and sunset. I only need the time but it sets both time and date. Otherwise so far so good. The challenge is when I display the values on the dashboard. My only option seems to be to use tile type "Variable" which lists the variables but no templates or options. The display shows time and date; date being in 24 hour format even though I've selected 12 hour in the dashboard and in settings. I thought the date & time parser might work but it seems to only give the current time, not time stored in a variable.

Any suggestions?

I do the same thing with Sunrise/Sunset, but I never tried massaging the format or output.

It seems like a limitation with the types of values that can be assigned to a Variable, and perhaps that once set into the variable it's a static value and the format doesn't change with other settings.
