Try changing it to a generic matter switch. On should be for open and Off for closed. Thatβs generally how it is displayed with other home platforms (at least based on Amazon reviews).
Success! Now I need to do some workarounds to get it working with the existing tilt sensor. The one that came with it is not pair-able no matter what I do. I sent a note to Third Reality Tech Support but don't hold any faith they will answer. Few do these days, I will mark this as Solution.
That's correct. The tilt sensor comes pre-paired to the button pusher and isn't independent. It's only used to tell if the garage door is open or closed β or on or off β because of course to the button pusher it's all the same.
If you are an adventurous type one of the AIs can almost certainly develop a Matter driver with both button and sensor with low-moderate effort. You just need to set the driver to Device, press Get Info, and feed the data to the AI with some example Hubitat drivers.
I was still tugging my beard in thought looking to see how the included sensor could be used for anything, so, I gave up.
This seems to work. This is a Rule Machine rule for when I leave the house. I use a virtual switch to set things in motion; that virtual switch has a duration of 500 milliseconds. So far, it is doing the job. The tilt sensor mentioned is one already in place that "talks" to my C-8. It is, ironically, a Third Reality product that runs under Zigbee.
You don't have to refer to the paired sensor in any automations. I'm not sure you even can. The opener just uses it to know if it's "on" (door is open), or "off" (door is closed). You can tilt the sensor back and forth to see the switch turn off and on.
There's a phone app β in the Apple app store it's called 3R-Installer β that shows whether the tilt sensor is paired to the opener or not. If it's paired, then it's working.
That being said, if you have a tilt sensor already that works well, there's no reason not to use it. I have a tilt sensor left over from before MyQ cut everything off. Mine is an Ecolink. It was already being used in some rules, and I didn't find a need to change that.
