Thermostats - Have a Nest thinking of upgrading to Ecobee

A few questions

  1. what does "Inlive them" mean
  2. what does WAF mean, coming across that acronym a lot here
  3. why Nest lite over Nest original, could I still Inlive a Nest

Thanks
David

We mean well but the term is terribly sexist. It stands for โ€œwife acceptance factorโ€ meaning will our wives like it or not - or in the worse case will she tell us to remove it because it is either too geeky, confusing, or aesthetically ugly. Thankfully I have seen a female user on the ST forum use the acronym HAF - that made me smile.

Makes sense...

What about

  1. what does "Inlive them" mean
  2. why Nest lite over Nest original, could I still Inlive a Nest

I have an ecobee3lite and absolutely love it

Whoever my usage does not rely on a connection to the internet.

One neat feature is the ability to download the thermostat data (how many seconds on per period etc)

In the below screenshot, each line is a 5 minute period. The sections that are not filled in are "I assume" time periods when the thermostat was not connected to the ecobee servers. IF I am correct, it is not connected more than it is connected. I plan on verifying this with ecobee.

However even given the above, I still love my ecobee as it functions well (i.e. controls the room temp) and provides additional information useful when getting ready to go out.

As for WAF, I don't think it is sexist, at least for me because my SO is my wife. So in my case it is accurate with no derogatory implications.

I don't agree that WAF is a misogynistic term. It simply describes whether our wives will like or not like the implementation, having nothing to do with a derogatory assessment of their abilities.

Fair enough
