Thermostat temp reporting issue? - Honeywell T6 ZW

I’m having an issue with my thermostat temperature Not reporting properly to the Hubitat (I think). I just installed a Honeywell T6 ZW Thermostat the other day. At first everything seemed ok. When I was about to go to bed the other night, I noticed the air was off and I checked my dashboard to see if it reached my set point of 72, as I was slightly warm. I checked the app and it said 73,5. I walked over to my thermostat and it said 72.

It appears that the thermostat is operating properly but the reporting of the temp is incorrect. I have attached a photo of my Thermostat dashboard and the thermostat itself to prove the numbers are off.

I am using thermostat scheduler and modes to control the schedule. I can assure you I refreshed my dashboard screen several times before I took the screen shots to make sure it wasn’t a refresh rate issue with dashboard.

Thanks.

If you go to the HE device page what temp does it say there? Can you see when the device last reported, and what the report was? If logging is not on turn it on, so you can better track what's going on with the device. Also if you manually refresh the device on the HE device page does it update to the correct temp?

My T6 has recently started doing the same thing. If I look at my Past Logs, I have 40 humidity reports spanning the past 7.5 hours and not a single temperature report. This recently started on a stat that has been installed and included for months. I haven't looked in-depth yet, but as I said, this is a fairly recent change in behavior.

(I don't know if this is possible, but @Furiator, you might see if you can change the post title to include 'T6' somewhere. That might get some more attention.

I have similar results however:

  1. my humidity is bouncing between 50 and 51%
  2. Temperatures that are shown are far apart in time and bounce between 71 and 72

Neither control the A/C (which is the controlling device this time of year). The A/C thermostat is not currently smart.

It would seem the T6 reports whenever the temperature or humidity changes by 1

While a little disconcerting, it appears perfectly normal. Perhaps they should have added a minimum time between reports for those of us that focus on the data.

Have you tried using the advanced custom driver?

I am using the bcopland driver for the T6. I couldn't find any parameter that might effect the thermostat reporting timing. In the T6 z-wave menu, I have advanced reporting OFF.

That is very normal for most thermostats. They do this on mostly for decimal rounding purposes.

I agree its normal, but I should have said ".... by 1 or more..."

Anyway it can explain the OP's original observations as normal.

Additional thought:
Smart thermostat makers should add a minimum report time parameter. This will stop the repeated messages when a value "dithers"

added to the title as suggested

I haven't tried the advanced driver. From the post it seems like it is So far I have only downloaded one custom driver to the Hubitat. I may try this, but JohnRob confirmed this driver will not fix this scenario.

It does appear that hitting the manual refresh does fix the reporting issue. I will post my log in my next post.

I sorted my log by searching for "temperature is":

At 8:40 I played around with the manual refresh. After that, my thermostat only reported its temperature 3 more times, almost exactly 2 hours apart at 12:46, 2:46, and 4:46.

This seems very odd to me.

Not sure I understand what "manual refresh" you are referring to. I'm using the advanced T6 driver from bcopland.

Go to the device page, and there is a button called refresh. I just changed to the advanced driver.

It is now called got temp instead of temperature is. But I have two got temps. One is actually the humidity.

In any event is it now only updating the temperature manually.

Did you ever solve this? I have 2 new T6s, and not a single temperature report.

Yes this was resolved. I don’t remember how.

Nope. OTOH, I haven't tried very hard, either. I did remove and re-pair using S2 Unauth, but that didn't fix it. I may try to go back to no security, but haven't gotten around to it.

Temperature reports are somewhere between sporadic and nonexistent. And it's not that the temperature is not moving. I'll have one report that the temp is 73 and the next report is 70. Something just decided to skip 72 and 71. (I've tried both standard and advanced reporting too. No change.)

Humidity reporting appears to be fine for whatever reason.

Re-opening this thread as I’m seeing the same issue. Any update on the matter? I’m running a refresh in RM every 5 min but that’s not optimal.

For clarity, even with 5 min refresh, temperature is only published if it moves by more than 0.5F (advanced reporting setup, and operating on battery).
