In the past couple of months, I had an issue after an update, (don't remember which one) where my heating wasn't working. If I recall I had to go into Thermostat Scheduler and change the mode in the second screenshot from Off to Heat. I also had Thermostat Controller app to help balance out the house but I disabled that app while trying to figure out that issue and have since left that app disabled. Past few days have been warm up here in the Northeast so we opened the windows and I turned off the heat on the thermostat. I just noticed that I'm now heating outside because the thermostat changed back to heat and it was cool last night. Before the recent update I don't think that mode option was there based on the Hubitat documentation from the 1st screenshot and so the Thermostat Scheduler didn't change the thermostat mode before and it adjusted the temperature based on the mode of the thermostat. Question is, if this was change was recent, what should i set that Mode option to? Or anytime i want to turn off the heat (or AC in the summer) and open a window I have to open Thermostat Scheduler and change all those entries to Off, Cool, or Heat? Maybe need a No Change option or something in the Mode selector
So I'm assuming that if I then changed the manual mode back to Heat (when it cools down again) now that I set my Wake and Night periods to Off on the mode column the thermostat will turn off.
I would like the capability to turn off the thermostat off for a day or two and before I thought I could do that by changing the thermostat or by changing the manual settings in the Thermostat Scheduler. I think now I have to edit all the options in the Mode column for each period whenever I want to open a window or close a window.
Almost need a Don't Change option or something under that Mode Column in the Period Settings. I think that Mode column was added recently based on the screenshots from the documentation.
Don't set the modes in the schedule. The thermostat should then stay at whatever mode you manually set it to and follow the schedule to apply the desired cool or heat temps.
@bravenel can you confirm this is the correct way to do this? I have not used Thermostat Scheduler in a while.
For me, I don't use the scheduler to change thermostat modes. I do it through rule machine because I have multiple conditions that determine whether to heat or cool. It's also my understanding that the scheduler will follow the mode it is set for unless you execute a hold. My thermostat does not change the thermostat mode when it executes a setpoint change at each given time. It stays in the mode set by RM or manually on very rare occasions.
Below is something Gemini came up with concerning when "thermostat mode" was introduced. I didn't verify the info but it sounds about right.
I think that is it, I didn't see an option in the dropdown at first but when I went to do a screenshot of the options I noticed an Erase Mode button to the right. Thanks for your help.
That is how I do it. I want to always control the mode and just let the scheduler set the temp. I also control fan mode based on other rules to help balance out the house temps.
Yeah that is how I wanted it to work but I had the Mode column set and didn't realize there was an option to Erase Mode, I was looking in the dropdown for a blank option or something besides Off, Cool, Heat, Auto so I could control it.
