I read about the thermostat scheduler. It doesn’t seem to be designed the way I use my HVAC. Maybe I missed something.
Right now, I use Vera and my needs are simple. I live in California where I turn off the furnace at night and turn it on at 6:45AM for an hour or when it reaches 68 degrees.
I might turn it on manually at the panel throughout the day if the temperature drops.
Then in case I forget to turn the thermostat off at the panel, I have a z-wave schedule in Vera that turns off the furnace at 9PM. It might not be on but Vera will send an off command to it just for good measure.
I apologize in advance that I didn't take the time to mock all this up using my hub to see if it all works, but I think the below ideas either individually, or used together, could work for you.
You could use one of the rule engines (Basic Rule, Rule Machine) to turn the heat on and off at certain times. With your provision you leave the heat running until it hits a certain temp, you probably need a more complex rule that Rule Machine would offer.
I wonder if you could just use Thermostat Scheduler, and use the "Optional Restrictions" listed at the bottom of this page? There are restrictions for times there. I believe you can even install multiple instances of thermostat controller, you could use one instance for morning and another for evening, and do different time restrictions for each instance.
