Same error here. Fixed by adding second theremostat to control (Virtual Thermostat that does nothing). Strange bug.
Hi Bravenel - the Thermostat Controller 2.0 is getting stuck on setting up a new controller throwing this error again on line 252 whenever the controlled thermostat does not have the Thermostat Mode set. I figured it out and changed the Thermostat Mode of the controlled thermostat to "Heat" after which all works fine. This may be useful for other users that get stuck on that "Unknown error" page while creating a new controller.

Thanks for the amazing work by the way - moving my heating from SmartThings to HE and the Thermostat Controller in combination with the Thermostat Scheduler are amazing. So much easier to keep track of everything - not even mentioning that I can now use external sensors to drive my radiators - THANKS!
