See image below, and the states exposed by the device. Am I doing anything wrong? This has persisted across the last several versions.

Can you PM me your devices detail from the side menu "i" button in the bottom right corner? Need to see the attributes reported from that driver.

same here .. I change to switch template and properly shows state -- but as a switch 
Some valves are using switch for control and valve as open/closed. Others are using contact as a capability instead of valve. Same open/closed but results in a blank tile. Working to get this all sorted out in our built in drivers.
