The continuing improvement and awesomeness of HE!

Okay so maybe that is a bit of hyperbole but want to start a thread on the things that ARE working well with HE..

I think a lot of frustration (and impatience) is due to the fact that HE owners like me are really excited about the potential of this very young platform and want everything to just work immediately. Unfortunately we also want all the features of our old but more mature ST hub..

My "just works" so far:

  • Basically my basement steps (Old ST Zigbee motion controller + smart bulb) lights just come on every time I open the door. Have not had to think about those at all.. same with my mudroom lights (Another old ST zigbee sensor + Aoetec recessed door sensor + aeotec micro switch)

  • Door open sensors + closet light relays. My Aeotec recessed door sensors have been working really well. I use them for downstairs closet + lighting & exterior doors. Have a rule that triggers an old Aeotec doorbell chime when any exterior door opened.

  • Outside lights - have a simple rule + APIXU app to detect lux and activate. It's been working so well I almost forgot it was there until I accidentally left a circuit breaker flipped and the front light stayed off.

  • Nest Integration. Just works and reports as expected. Not using it for too much yet but have never had an issue.

  • Custom devices and apps. Custom drivers for specific devices by the usual suspects have been awesome, My custom notification device I wrote to send me alerts via email (and txts via email) has been working.

  • Still kinda early but 2 hubs have been working well too. I did set up Hub Link and have a secondary hub water sensor tied to the HSM on my main hub. So far so good but time will tell.

  • Response times of individually toggled devices is really good. Have had wonky device group issues but for the most part single devices react speedily.

  • Community forums has been a terrific and invaluable resource for me figuring things out. Everyone's been very helpful and understanding.

  • Approach-ability of the staff at HE. It's very nice that the staff also participates in the threads wherever possible. A lot of quick bug fixes and solutions seem to happen because of this.

  • Support - can't say enough good things about the support I've gotten so far. They've helped me through a bunch of things including quickly sending me a replacement unit after mine was fried by a faulty powersupply.

Well let me chime in...

  • My Zooz Switches, TPLink and Sengbeld devices are rock solid.
  • Harmony integration is beyond my expectations
  • Homebridge integration is solid and awesome
  • lighting rules just work! Work so well that when there are issues the family will sit in darkness verses reaching for a Zooz switch on the wall
  • IFTTT integration for my Roomba and Sense is rock solid

I am 98% happy with HE. I would vote that Kwikset 888 devices be placed on the naughty list. But my new Yale locks have been solid.

I would say now that I switched my Yale to the Zigbee module things have been working as well. Very responsive.

What are you doing there?

Everything works swimmingly over here.

Occasionally my Hue Bridge doesn't respond. That's why I'm going to replace it with another HE hub. Problem solved.

I haven't had any issues that have been caused by HE. I only have about 25 devices at the moment. I really need to spend a few days to really understand RM still. I can do basic stuff, but struggle with the advanced rules

I am in the same boat. It would be nice to have some videos with more details in RM. This is all new to me and it has been a great learing experience.

Let's just establish that this post and all comments above were at version 2.0.4 or earlier. Experiences can drastically change between hub firmware releases.
I think the version the hub is at is very important to posts. For example, I used to receive notifications for which person entered a code on my locks. This worked in 2.0.3 and earlier (since Lock Code Manger was released), but this is not working on 2.0.4. Hubitat has stated that it will be resolved in 2.0.5.

#HubVersion=2.0.4

Yeah, anything good? I just have roomba with Alexa. Any way to link Roomba schedule to HE?

I guess my "goal" for this thread was to add a little positive spin so people can see that yes in fact the HE IS worth it in spite of the issues in some of the other posts. It's easy to forget how awesome things are when you are frustrated or upset that things are not going your way or moving fast enough.

I was thinking in more general and current terms. If something stopped working on the latest firmware then maybe it shouldn't be mentioned here but of course everything is open for discussion - up to you. If certain regressions start working again in the next update that will be great but not exactly what I was going for here.

Where do you find the modules for these?

I use sense to flip virtual switches when the washer, dryer and dishwasher start/stop a cycle to notify me when complete.

HE flips a virtual switch twice a day to initiate Roomba. My goal is to have HE turn on Roomba when Presence is gone during the day. Hence why I have been so interested in the presence discussions in the forums.

I also use IFTTT for my ring doorbell and Wyze camera motion detection too.

Thanks Eric for your effort to balance the forum with this topic, we certainly appreciate your kind words and positive outlook! :grinning:

It is the very nature of a forum such as this that there will always be the appearance of problems and a tone of negativity that goes with those problems. Frustration at things not working as desired is always to be expected. But, there are also constant "a ha!" moments that people have and comment on peppered through the threads. I think most people who have been here for a while realize that we are very committed to fixing problems and improving Hubitat Elevation, despite these passing issues.

Yesterday I crashed my production hub at home with an infinite recursion loop in some tricky new code -- not fun fighting with the UI to kill that app before it killed the hub. We all have these moments when it's just not fun that things don't work right. I'm just crazy enough to do development work on my home production hub sometimes. Doing so throws me right into the briar patch of finding out that new things work (or not!) and that bugs are fixed (or not).

I bought mine here:

I never could get my YRD210 to pair securely with the original Z-Wave module, but it has been working perfectly with a Zigbee module. Big thanks to you and everyone else who mentioned this option. Saved me from having to buy a new lock.

I have a YRD210, and the module from Yale for my lock is $100. So I took a chance and got a refurbished module from eBay for about $60. No problems so far.

I will say that the Kwikset locks I've converted to zigbee have been awesome.

They respond much faster than they did when they were Z-Wave. In my case they were regular Z-Wave, not plus, which makes it even worse.

Other than replacing GE with Lutron devices, my system has pretty well hit steady state. I've actually had a few days recently where I haven't tweaked anything, and almost got the withdrawal shakes. And the best part is....everything just works. Every time.
