I'm thinking this app to set presence / away status.
If the door close test for 5/10 minutes all motion sensor if any capture motion then set away mode.
Else set Presence mode.
What do you tink?
I think that the phone location is not a valid mathod. Too many cases in wich it doesn't work.
I think if someone breaks into your property 4/9 mins after you leave you don't get any notice/alarm. Personally I think the commonly used combination of gps (Life360 or suchlike) + HE app gps + wifi connection is a better approach. You could also combine that with motion, but I wouldn't rely on it alone myself.
I have also tested various methods and now i am using HomeKit geolocation. It works flawlessly but it has one drawback: the area of detection is pretty large. But i use it in combination with a door sensor. Once i arrive near my home, i have an automation rule on my iPhone which sets a virtual switch on through homebridge. Than it waits for me to open the door and sets presence on. As i said it works flawlessly.
I've used wifi detection but the response it's not consistent. Sometimes the phone was detected before entering my home, sometimes a few minutes after. And it's too dependent on the phone itself. It works good enough on Samsung S8, but never on iPhone 7. And every software update can make it unstable because of power saving settings.
HE Geolocation does not work on my phones.
I have not tried Life360 but as long as you have an iOS device and HomeBridge, you don't need it.
After monitoring the effects of various presence sensors for a while, I settled on iPhone WiFi presence sensor + Geofency, running the two through Combined Presence. It's been very reliable for me.
I have 2 problem with geofance and wifi. My work place is very near to my house, in Venice where I live gps do not work very well, and I need to check if anybody is at home, including the house keeper wich I cannot control the phone.
