Hi everyone. I'm taking suggestions to replace one of my smart locks, the SCHLAGE FE599NX CAM 619 ACC 619 Home Keypad Lever. It was an ok lock, thought I found the connectivity with Z-wave to be so-so in spite of having multiple range extenders, but now it's gone dead and replacing with new batteries is not helping.
I'm looking for something compatible with Hubitat (obviously), and which I can also control with Alexa, either directly or through Hubitat. I want to be able to use the same lock does as my other two locks, and I want something with a similarly ornate appearance, since would be for my front door.
I'm OP on that discussion @DGBQ linked to. Have had two Kwikset 914s installed for a couple of weeks now. Works great. I like that it's slightly smaller than my old Schlage units. The Zigbee works excellent. They "feel" less upscale than the Schlage, but I appreciate the functionality. The Lock Code Manager works fine on them, so all my codes got uploaded and work fine. I miss the lighted keypad, but it really isn't a functionality concern. Both of them are in places that always have light. Again, it just "feels" less fancy. I think they look nice and the WAF is good. They are noisier in operation than the Schlage, but not startlingly so. The little blinking light every 6 seconds tells you at a glance (sort of) if the lock is locked (amber) unlocked (green) or has low batteries (red). I actually would have chosen a different color scheme if I had a choice. Red should mean unlocked, green locked and amber for low battery. Alas, Kwikset did not ask me. I really liked the feature of being able to rekey the locks myself easily with a tool that they include. So now both locks use the same key. Great feature.

There aren't a lot of z-wave/zigbee Lever locks available that are compatible with the same cylinder as your existing Schlage lever lock. I'm emphasizing lever, since the other responses are suggestions for deadbolts.
The only one I am aware of this the JFE109 ZWave-plus lever lock from Schlage. Linked to below:
In November I replaced my ancient FE599 with this:
Schlage JFE109BIL716 (Dexter JFE109 BIL Billows Z-Wave Connected Single Cylinder Electronic Keypad Leverset)
It paired up to my C-8 hub and has been working well.
I was running the old FE599 off a C-4 hub because I was concerned about getting it to pair on the newer Z-Wave hardware.
I just realized after I read @aaiyar 's comment that I gave the wrong information.
What I'm trying to replace on my main door is a Kwikset 910 Z-wave lock.
I think the Schlage FE599 is actually a non-deadbolt lock that I have on one of my other doors. I will need something similar to that also for another door, but the need right now is a replacement for my Kwikset 910.
I'm hoping to get something that doesn't require me to drag my hubitat all the way down to pair it up close, as that was really inconvenient. Also, Z-wave is general doesn't seem to work as well for me as Zigbee and Lutron's network protocols.
Also, is it my imagination, or are Z-wave and Zigbee locks much harder to find these days? The market seems to be moving towards Wi-Fi locks... which I don't think would work with Hubitat, right?
Also, have any of you had a problem with these Kwikset 910's not locking/unlocking as easily, as if they are starting to get jammed? That's what is happening even to my second 910 which is otherwise still active. I'm wondering if just opening it up and squirting some WD40 in there will fix that problem.
Do those still require that you walk your Hubitat right up to the lock at point blank range in order to include them in the Hubitat network? I couldn't remember if that was a lock-specific security measure or if it was for all Z-wave locks or all smart locks in general.
You might consider getting a newer hub the next time there’s a sale. You will not have to re-pair devices, and the improvement in performance is quite striking.
FWIW lock cylinders are a standard component of a lock. Yale offered a Schlage option when I bought a few lever locks, came with Kwikset and I just removed and replaced it with the Schlage cylinder.
Home Depot sells a $15 Universal Schlage Cylinder you can put into most locks. Just wanted to mention that it’s pretty easy to convert.
The Lock Picking Lawyer has a great video about the MUL-T-LOCK
Form your own opinion. I can’t see spending more than I paid for the lock, especially since there is a window about 4 feet to the left of the front door.
