T-Mobile Home Internet Backup?

Not from what I read. If their coverage improves, this could be a good backup choice for you.

The home backup internet plan paid off. My AT&T fiber went off line overnight, and the fail over backup internet kicked in with zero issues.

I didn't even notice that AT&T fiber was out until I checked my messages this morning.

I also love how the Unifi gateway seamlessly rolled over to the secondary WAN.

I am also seeing seamless transitions in my backup strategy but it has changed a bit. Now that the Unifi UDM can support up to 8 wan connections I have 3 connections. T-Mobile finally has 5g home working in our neighborhood and for $40/month you get unlimited service I jumped at this since they were offering a $300 visa card after 2 months of service.

AT&T is about to raise the rate of vDSL from $45/month to $70/month/unlimited. Starlink roam is still $50/month/for 50 GB of data.

So right now, I am testing this:

  • T-Mobile (Primary) seeing 400 to 500 mbps down and 25 to 40 mbps up
  • AT&T vDSL (Backup but using this route to send cloud backups) 95 mbps down and 20 mbps up
  • Starlink (Suspended but not shut off) upload/download varies because ROAM doesn't have a committed bandwidth but seen about 120 mbps down and 15 to 25 mbps up.

If AT&T does raise prices, I will drop their service and then re-activate Starlink Roam also Starlink is finally coming up with a internet "Backup" service plan which my be just $10/month but since I am in a "oversubscribed" location for Starlink I may not be able to have it provisioned for my address.

*** Update ***

In 5 days AT&T will increase the pricing of vDSL and the option for "unlimited" data will increase by $10/month. Spoke with a AT&T representative and because I don't use their wireless services I no longer qualify for discounts. I didn't go down the "retention" group yet. An interesting side conversation I had with them is that the 100 mbps service is no longer offered in my subdivision only 50 mbps service which means I am grandfathered in but once I cancel there is no going back.
