My hub got corrupted after an accidental unplug... Now i've done the reset via the usb key, and need my cloud keys reset, but they haven't gotten back to me all day. Last time this happened it was a very quick fix. Is support on vacation for the holidays? Is there a phone number to call? E-mail isn't working...
Tagging @bobbyD for you...
Are planning on starting from scratch or are you going to restore from a backup? If you are going the backup route, support does not need to be involved. There is a restore from backup link on the main start page.
Sorry, but I am unable to help you, but as a new owner I have a question. Is the hub really this fragile to an unforeseen unplug event ? It makes me a bit worried as my hub location does have occasional outages and I may need to protect it from these if this is the case.
Also, the USB key reset and cloud key reset, what is that ?
Do you mean will the hub get corrupted so badly every time there’s a power outage that it has to be restored from a backup? Probably not. I have accidentally pulled the plug on my hub before and it was fine. OP would have to provide more details but chances are, there’s more to the story than just a brief power outage.
Having said that, if your location is prone to power outages then you should consider using a UPS for critical computer equipment in general.
I have always found support responses to be very timely.
It's not that fragile with my hub. I have close to 300 devices and probably hundred rules. I did have quite a few unplugged without missing a beat after powering back on.
How have you managed it twice?
All computers are.
Timing is everything. The Hub is, more than anything, a Database. As such, corruption of the DB is a-really-bad-thing. Hubitat tries hard to not be crippled by a DB corruption, in part by having 4 backups stored on board. If as it's booting, it discovers a corrupt db, it restores the previous backup... and then the one before that and the one before that.
You can 'enhance corruption' by being impatient, for example (speaking from experience) and do a reboot just at the moment it's restoring a previous backup, thus corrupting that one... it's kind of a viscous circle. It takes extra time to boot, inpatients leads to a reboot, causing it to take even longer. ;(
The hub needs an external factory reset button procedure, along with some led indicators.
Hm, makes me think that it would be nice if a hub connected to a UPS could detect a power outage (e.g. certain devices aren't responding) and shut itself down safely if it doesn't begin detecting those devices after a few minutes. The only problem would be if the hub shut itself down but the UPS was still providing power, and mains power comes back on and now the hub is offline.
It's no Apple, but it's lightspeed compared to SmartThings...
I think poor Bobby is alone-ish, but Hubitat only got $100-150 out of you so they've got to keep the lights on. Pardon the pun...
Seems odd maybe @Cobra will be getting out of bed soon. He's in the UK somewhere and it's probably 1 am in the morning and he usually responds anyway. Which I give him grief for when I reach out to support. Usually someone is around, though.
Chuck asked a question and I don't see the answer and @dt1 hasn't made a 2nd post here.
I'm thinking maybe s/he's gotten the help needed.
A small UPS is cheap insurance for future headaches with Hubitat. I already had a small UPS for other network stuff (PoE switch, cloudkey, etc). I understand Hubitat doesn't handle UPS communications but I'm fine with that. Hubitat was inexpensive and I would rather them focus on the core development of drivers for devices.
Remember Hubitat is a computer. No different from randomly unplugging your main PC a bunch of times....

For those that want a pre-made, pre-tested UPS solution for Hubitat....
(note, I have no direct affiliation with Konnected, just a user)
You can probably do it cheaper getting the parts/cables yourself, but this is handy for people short on time that just want to get it done quickly.
We had two power cuts & a brown out in the same evening on Thursday and our Hubitat just kept re-booting ok.
I would not tempt fate. Should your hub become non-functional, it's like sudden darkness crashing in from which there is no escape.
i did...
