Suggestions on z-wave issues

So I have an Scene called Good Night that my wife invokes during bedtime.
It turns off 16 devices. They are a combination of Leviton Z-wave dimmers, switches, and outlets. Lately it seems two of the Z-wave Dimmers and one outlet seem to fail. I believe the dimmers and switches are Z-Wave plus as I see the 0x5E in the Clusters for the device. I am not sure what to look for on outlets.

I have a C-7 Hub with 229.134 firmware and all the switches are Z-Wave Plus with the latest Leviton Firmware.

Looking Settings -> Z-Wave details I see no zombies. Everything has routes. I have done repairs on some of the more problematic lights.

I have an automation that turns on the lights before sunset and they all turn on fine.
However the statuses on some of the lights don't change to On. I can do a refresh in the device and it will change.

So when my wife will calls the scene Good Night via Alexa to turn off these lights when going to bed. The problem lights will not turn off. I presume its because the statuses still say some of the lights are off, as a result they do not turn off.

I have played with different drivers

  • Generic Z-wave Smart Switch (and dimmer version)
  • Generic Z-Wave Plus Smart Switch (and dimmer version)
  • Leviton DZ6HD Dimmer

but really don't see much of a difference. Also All these somewhat repetitive overlapping drivers are very confusing.

I have also power cycled the various circuits as well.

Suggestions? Here is a screen shot of one of the devices:

My first guess would be under your Good Night scene there is a setting near the end of the screen page that says "Enable activation optimization"...I would check to make sure this is off

Thanks I turned it off and we will see what happens the next couple of days.

Another question I have I’m trying to debug this relates to the “Enable Debug Logging” in the device screen. I have turned this on, save settings and it seems get turned off later on. As a result I do not debug messages on the device. Is there a reason the flag would get turned off.

Yeah the system automatically turns off debug logging after a while. Try turning it on right before you go to bed.

Thanks I thought I was going crazy. Too bad there is not an option to disable that function or set the period of time before it gets disabled.

If you still have issues with some devices after turning off activation optimization the next step you might try would be to turn ON "Enable Metering" with about a 50 - 75 ms delay. With 16 devices being turned off the Z-wave radio might get loaded down. This switch would insert a delay between the various commands.

Thanks I will try that next. Any thoughts on what the best driver to use is?

Reading the forums it seems the non plus versions seem the best but I have not seen any official recommendations although the 229 updates may imply something but I haven’t tried deleting/adding to see what it would say.

I have a few Leviton DZ6HD dimmers and I use the Leviton DZ6HD Z-Wave Dimmer driver. On my Leviton DZ15S switches, which are Z-wave Plus, the Generic Z-Wave Smart Switch driver works for me.

Well I did as suggested on both counts. The lights turned off but the statuses did not update to off. I had to go in a few mi utes later and do a refresh to get the status changed. I did have the debug flag on.

I am glad the lights turned off. Not sure about the status. I have seen threads about updating the firmware on the Leviton dimmers, such as...

I would first check your dimmer device page for the firmware version. If it is not listed you can use the Basic-Z-Wave tool driver. You can check Hubitat Package Manager for the Basic-Z-Wave tool driver.

I have not had to update the firmware on my DZ6HD dimmers because they are all less than 2 years old and the firmware is up to date, Version 1.2.

As I mentioned in my original post they are all upgraded to 1.20

Sorry ...didn't catch that. I am not sure why the Leviton switches/dimmers don't show the correct status.

Perhaps someone else can chime in here if they have any suggestions.
