Stupid question about zigbee repeater

Just got a couple of Ikea zigbee repeaters. My question is do these things need to be included. I've tried to include and do to see them get discovered. There is a small rest button.

you have ti hold the reset button for several seconds (I think it's around 10s).
Then add them and let the device type on "device".

They definitely have to be included. If they aren't they can't listen and repeat the zigbee messages, as only nodes that are part of the network can do that at the protocol level.

Yep hitting the rest button on the device did the trick. The instructions are a little lacking in the box. Now to wait for my network to stabilize and hopefully the spruce sensor on the other side of the wall works better.

Ok, You got me.
What on earth is a spruce sensor ?
Is it slang for a smoke detector (spruce = wood, burning = smoke ) ??

That is just spooky.
Yesterday evening I was at my local ‘Bunnings’ home warehouse looking at automation for irrigation.
I didn’t find anything but WIFI or Bluetooth devices and now this drops into my lap.....
Very cool. Thx.

 yes the spruce moisture/temp sensor. So I can control my sprinklers with my sonoff 4ch. Damned if I'm paying skydrop for what I was promised for free. And it gives me something to tinker with.

I'll save you some frustration you will need to change your channel on zigbee to something <= 20 to include the spruce sensor.

And sonoff needs to be flashed with different software. Going to be taking out the skydrop tomorrow and setting up the sonoff. I've been testing everything ahead of time before installing.

Thx for the tip.
I’m a long way from jumping on board with this but it’s always good to know.
I was a little surprised to see the moisture sensors didn’t have a solar cell on them to keep them charged. I guess they’re saving that for a future revision.

Interesting. As I was posting a question related to this, this thread showed as similar.

In a remote part of the house, I have Hue lights and four button dimmer, associated with the Hue hub; and the Hue hub linked to HE. For a while, I had a Peanut plug there for a temporary usage. Since I no longer had need for a plug at that location, and there is no HE linked Zigbee in that area, I removed the plug. I assumed the Hue buttons would be on their own mesh, on the Hue network; so the HE associated plug would not affect it.

After removing the plug, the Hue things in that area became flakey. It would take multiple button presses to finally get a response. The button device would blink red, rather than the expected green, which I assume indicates a communication issue. Once I put back a Zigbee plug (Iris this time), associated with HE, the Hue became very responsive again.

So it seems that the repeater is helping for devices which are not part of its association. If, in fact that is happening, does that mean that it could repeat for other devices too? Such as my neighbors?

The effect of the zigbee plugs (Peanut/Iris) did not arise from their functioning as repeaters for a mesh network they were not a part of. I have no idea what was going on with your Hue network - you'd need a RF analyzer to figure that out, but you can rule out the possibility of zigbee devices repeating for a network they do not belong to.

I'll chalk it up to coincidence then (a pair of them).

I guess I can experiment more, removing the plug again, to see if the issues return. But I will have to wait until the wife is not around, so she doesn't get irritated with the buttons not working.
