Stupid Q: Adding multiple z-wave switches "at once"?

I've never had more than one device to add at a time, so just not entirely sure the best way to do this.

Say I have my power off, install 5 new smart switches (Zooz, if it matters) and then power comes back on. All are new switches and will be ready for inclusion, yes? But I also assume a pairing timeout?

So how do I sort of add them one-by-one, and actually know which switch I've just added+setup?

You can only include one Z-Wave device at a time. The hub should take whichever one it happens to discover first. To match them up, one thing you could do is match up the DSKs (the code you need for S2 security) if the hub prompts, which it will only do for S2 Authenticated. I'm not sure if these are. Another thing you could do is use the air gap if any of your products have one, then start them one by one. An alternative is to used Smart Start from the mobile app and let them all add themselves that way--nothing manual needed after scanning them in.

If nothing else, you can also just include them, then run obvious commands from the device detail page, like on/off, and see what responds.

I can’t speak for Zooz, because I use all Leviton z-wave switches. With those, you have to physically put them in inclusion mode, just turning on power isn’t sufficient.

I would do this. You could either scan all the codes in at once and just wait. Or you could scan one, let it pair, name it, etc... move to the next.

Personally I would just scan them all in, power them up, give it a few minutes to pair them all, then use commands from the device page to see which is which and name them.

You can even give them names in the Smart Start screen, and then once they pair it should show you the node ID, which you can match up on zwave details. Unfortunately the names you set in there do not carry over to the device :frowning:

Personally, I'd label them, power them up on a bench (one by one), add them to HE, test them, then install them.
But then my house is old with small boxes and a real pita to install smart switches.
