my hubitat worked on DHCP, I changed it to static. My setup is very simple, 1 laptop 192.168.0.200 (static), 1 cell modem, 192.168.0.1 (static) hubistat 192.168.0.102 (static), 1 unmanaged hub
all 255.255.255.0
I have been in the SCADA busy for over 25 years, we use 1000s of cell modems and we use unmanaged hubs, never had issues with communication
this is a simple confg,
I can ping the Hubistat @ .102 using my laptop, I can ping the cell modem at .1, I can ping 8.8.8.8 with my laptop, I can surf the internet with my laptop.
I used the built in ping test tool in the hubitat and it can ping my laptop @ .200, it can also ping the cell modem @ .1, BUT the hubitat CANNOT ping 8.8.8.8
Also the hubitat does not show on the hubitat cloud.
Has anyone use hubitat on a cell modem?
And yes, I rebooted the hubitat several times to rule that out.
@DeLannie Change the dns on hubitat to 1.1.1.1 Sometimes it chokes when you set a static ip on the hub and use 8.8.8.8 and it shouldn't. That said, it would probably be better to set a dhcp reservation on your router instead...
The DNS should have no impact on pinging an IP directly.
I know there have been issues with this setting before, and the recommendation was if you are having issues to change it to the opposite of what it currently is set to. Worth a shot. For me it was causing the web UI to be very slow and once that was changed it worked properly.
Worth noting, I cannot ping 8.8.8.8 either, but 1.1.1.1 works fine
is there a tool in HE that I can confirm that the is it communicating to the cloud server? The reason I ask, after changing to static , my cell app does not find the HE
also, when I log on to "My Hubitat", my register hub (I only have one) show as my old IP, and is "grey" out, I assume its because my HE is not communicating the cloud when using static?
I've got a particular model of security camera that cannot be seen by google or by the cloud service if I give it a static IP on the device but it works fine with the same IP address reserved on the router
I still need help getting my HE to communicate to the cloud. After changing to the static and not working, I tried going back to dhcp, now I cannt find the HE and Im on the same network, I even tried using the mac address, the HE is MIA
Assign it a reservation in your router's DHCP server then using a paperclip or toothpick, press the reset button on the bottom of the hub for 5 seconds (it's the only round hole out of all the square ones) This should get you back online and the cloud server seeing you again..
