I have created a bunch of virtual switches to use for Christmas stuff. Now they will not be used until next year. Will leaving those switches stale increase the overhead of my hub much? Should I delete them? I realize that I would have to rebuild several things (pistons, rules, etc.) next year if I delete them.

Nope, they just sit there. They exist but do nothing. Much like my children.
