Sporadic delays occasionally

I am occasionally seeing several second delays from a door contact opening to the playing of a door chime. Mostly the chime happens within 300mS, but at random times, it sometimes takes several seconds. I have enabled debug logging and there is nothing obvious to me that stands out. There is a door opened entry that triggers the rule and then several seconds later the chime play is logged. I have no ghost devices that I can see and there doesn't seem to be any pattern or time of day that it occurs. I will grab a log snippet next time it happens.

Is this something to just live with or is there some way to dig into what is happening?

Have you determined the delay is not with the chime device itself? If it always responds immediately when making it chime from the device page it is probably not the device, but I would try clicking the chime command in the driver at different times to see if it is the device is doing the delay randomly.

If the rule triggers without delay from the contact sensor, then either RM is causing the delay before sending the chime command, or the chime is delaying responding to the command it received.

Resolving this will need more detail from you:

  1. The devices involved and how theyโ€™re integrated with Hubitat.
  2. The automation used, and logs from when the automation executes.
  3. Details on your z-meshes, assuming the contact sensor or chime are zigbee/z-wave.

I did have a log where I saw the rule triggered and the command to activate the chime was several seconds later in the log. It appears that RM is sending the command to chime late. When it works timely, the logs show a delay of around 300mS in all but these cases.

The logs are there, I'm waiting to capture another delay and I will post it then, The devices are an Ecolink zwave door sensor and a ZSE50. They use the following rule...

It is the Zooz Chime

I'm not sure what you a referring to regarding the z-meshes

settings>>z-wave details , use windows snip and post your entire z-wave table (there are no personally identifiable things in there)

Deck Door = 12
Zooz Chime = 160

ID's per the device tab. I assume those are decimal. Not sure how to covert the LR ID (A0) in the chart, but since it's configured as LR, it's direct to the hub which is through two drywall walls and about 8 feet away.

That is the topology map. @rlithgow1 wants to see the table that shows all your devices, status, routes, etc. This is only a snip of mine, but you should include all of your devices. Depending on the amount of devices, you may need to do it in a few clips.

Gotcha.....

Overall your table looks good. That backyard motion sensor is offline (likely dead battery maybe?)

Just added that two days ago. Brand new so something isn't happy about it.

LOL batteries weren't fully pushed in. A new Zooz ZSE70. Push those batteries in after removing the insulating tabs on them.

The zooz chime is paired in LR mode. How far is it from the hub? Your mesh appears to be pretty good, so I am thinking that the Zooz chime's performance might be better and more consistent if it were paired in mesh mode rather than LR mode.

I think you missed my earlier comment that the hub waits several seconds before sending the command to the chime per the logs. Itโ€™s not the response of the chime. It is the delay to activate the chime. I will capture the log next time it happens.

Please do. Enable Events/Triggers/Actions for that Rule. Separately, turn on Description Text logging for both the sensor and the chime.

Random delays are common things with HE. My system is complex: C8Pro is a main working horse combined with C7 + HA and has more than 600 devices (Zigbee, ZWave, LAN, BT, Virtual). Overall system performance is very good, behavior is stable enough and WAF is really high. But occasionally there are random delays. Unfortunately it is next to impossible to find out a source of these delays. It is what it is. But yes, I am very happy with my setup.

All logging enabled. Nonce it happens again, I will post the log. Thanks

Iโ€™m exceptionally pleased with the performance of HE, but these random delays that are rare get questions from my wife if you know what I mean.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. But as I mentioned, WAF is really high.
