Speech / Voice Synth

Hi all,

I am currently running the Chromecast Integration (beta) and it's pretty flakey, even with the keep-alive service - keeps dropping the integration (Chromecast devices show, but no audio output and a rediscovery of the devices or hub restart normally fixes it) - I know it's beta, but it has been beta for ages and the dropout's are getting pretty annoying.

Does anybody have experience of Amazon Echo please? Hoping it's more reliable considering the service is based on Amazon Polly.

Thanks,
Gordon

I love my Amazon devices with Echo Speaks.

Thanks ... but does it work reliably with Hubitat's voice output though?

It does for me.

Yes, it works. However, it works better if you use the Echo Speaks commands.

Is it still a big effort to setup? Last time I checked there were all these things with Heroku and stuff to hurdle through. The chromecast stuff is nice that its plug and play without much effort, but I agree that it's pretty flakey.

Yes, but I didn't find it that difficult. And once I set mine up, I have not had to touch it in months.

The Alexa Speaks integration works well. The only thing I did not like is that you have to set up a Heroku account.

It does require the Internet to function. If your Internet connection is lost, so are your notifications. For critical alerts like a water leak or a door opened at night I use an Aeotec Gen 5 doorbell with 99 programable alerts using stored mp3 or wav files. Unfortunately, the Gen 5 device is no longer available and the Gen 6 siren device only has 10 preprogrammed alert tones. If Hubitat triggers an alert tone and then Alexa speaks the alert, you would have the best of both worlds.

Thanks all.

Good to know. Thanks for sharing your experience.
