I've noticed in my logs that my Sonos likes to report it's current state and volume level even though it is not being used. Is this normal? I would assume that Sonos would just do nothing unless something triggers it.

Mine has done this since day one (probably an internal poll of some kind by the driver). A bit annoying but not really a problem. You can safely ignore the messages.
Sonos seems to generate a good bit of log traffic even when not playing. Not sure whether this corresponds to a significant amount of network traffic or not.
BTW - Despite what the log entries would lead you to think, none of my Sonos are playing.
@clindst, @Eric.C.Miller, @stephack I wonder if turning off the logging (both) on the speaker device page would work. I have mine turned off and I don't see any log entries for them at all. I am using the symfonisk speakers unless that doesn't make any difference.
Worth a try. I'm making the change now.
Yeah, it's done this forever now. I just ignore them.
Ditto for mine as well...I've often puzzled at their 'chattiness' but took the @corerootedxb approach as well!
I noticed the same chattiness from Sonos on ST so when I moved them to Hubitat I just turned off all logging I could and haven't noticed much except when one or more is playing.
Not a single Sonos event in the logs since I turned off the descriptionText logging yesterday.
