Thanks for this suggestion, and yes, I have considered it at one point out of frustration. I decided to try and figure it out in RL because I do have contact sensors I would like to add to these automations once I solve my current inconsistency dilemma. Is it possible to eventually utilize contact sensors with Basic Rules if I cannot find an fix for RL? If so, I may start walking down that road shortly.
You will find a fix for your Room Lighting automation.
Unfortunately, like @ogiewon, I have not learned this new app. However, many others, such as @jtp10181, are expert at it, in addition to @bravenel who developed it. Iām sure one of them will step in to help.
You may be having issues because your time periods are the same as your triggers, so depending on which one fires first (milliseconds apart) they might not being going in the expected order.
I would suggest using just two time periods. Normal and Nightlight. Allow OFF on both of them. Normal is where you would set your level 17. Have Nightlight start as 9PM as desired. Have normal start at something like Sunrise + 30
I think the rest of it is OK.
One other thing to consider, is how do you want it to act if the light is turned on manually. You could add in the means to turn on the dimmer itself, so if it is off for whatever reason, turning it on via the switch would engage the RL settings.
Thank you so much for the assist here. I have done as you suggested and now have only those 2 time periods for the lighting looking like this.
I think where I was getting confused is I thought I needed to have a turnoff and a turn on in both the "means to activate" + "Means to Turn Off" as well as in the "Set Up Lighting Periods". I will apply this principle to my other dimmers also and see if that is the remedy.
I am unsure how to add in another means to activate since I am already using "time of day" as a means. How would I add in the means to turn on the dimmer as you mentioned so that manually turning it on will engage the RL settings? Thank you again for this help!
Would I just create another instance with this dimmer, and for the "Means to activate" use the "Switch Turns On"? So I would have two RL instances for the same dimmer. I just want to be sure I am tracking this direction correctly.
No you can do it all in one. if you open up the means to activate you should have a drop down to select switch as an option along with the time. I can get screenshots when Iām at home.
Honesty this sort of straight up timer would be better suited to rule machine. But adding a second means to activate as the switch then it is more handy to have in room lighting.
I don't know how I didn't see this before, thank you for that direction, I was able to easily select it. Looking forward to seeing how everything plays out here in a few hours when some events begin to trigger. I will report back with the details, thanks again.
Ok just wanted to report that your suggestion seems to be the ticket! All dimmers are firing off at the correct times with 100 percent consistency. Thanks so much for the help here and putting an end to several days of frustration lol.
So glad to hear that this issue has been resolved!
Thank you! Same here!
