[SOLVED] Reliable Hardware & Software?

Right.. thinking more future-proofing.

Static IP set in DHCP server (TP Link Deco router). Did not know about setting the IP in the hubitat UI.

I prefer the way you have it set up. Better to let the router issue addresses. Try a new cable.

Also is the hub connected directly to the ethernet switch on the router, as opposed to any intermediate devices?

I'd also be interested to know if you see any error message when you try to access port 8081.

And on the network side is there any poe involved.

OK! Well that's a step in the right direction. Does the rest of the interface appear to come up ok?

is your browser(s) trying to force https?

Nope. just plain HTTP

I just noticed your note above, so you are getting the ui on port 80?

Yup. 80 & 8081 -- both provide GUI. Cherchez la cable. Voila.

Sometimes we get lucky. Glad it was that simple.

Great, now back to your original post. It may have been a corrupt database. I would go to settings, download a fresh backup, then do a soft reset, then apply the database you saved to your PC. This will ensure against corruption. From that point reupdate to the latest firmware.

The bad LAN cable was the "new". A ribbon rather than the old twisted wire cable -- the one in use now which works. We live in the wireless world. I am now out of LAN cables. They cost a fortune now. Will get one or two more and retire another ribbon LAN cable.

No backup. Need to attach three Kwikset locks to the hub. Have been pretty slow to setup devices. Need to get the Abode security system setup before I do hubitat automation.

Will a soft reset help? Clear the "empty" database. You never know what those little bitty bits do.

Most importantly, it can't hurt. It's been described above.. get a new backup downloaded to your computer. That process exports the DB in a "clean" form. Any errors in the DB don't get exported. Then do a soft reset, which erases the DB on the hub. Finally, restore the freshly saved, clean backup into the Hub and other than the 6-8 minutes it took to do, you KNOW that the internal DB is "clean." Peace of mind is worth 6 minutes.

For a few years, I’ve been using these slim cables. They don’t kink easily, and are easy to run.

Define a fortune. These were only $2.39, obviously longer will be more expensive, but really not that expensive.
