I have several of these combinations in 3 way switch mode around the house now, after spending the last 3 days installing them. They all work to a certain degree, however, I am having issues with the add on switches in particular.
The add on switches will turn on and dim/brighten the lights as long as the brightness level is less than 100%.
Once the light level reaches 100% either by pushing and holding the add on switch, or by pushing and holding the main switch, the add on switch becomes dead and will not respond to single click down (power off) or push and hold down (dimming).
If the lights are off, the add on switch will turn the lights on.
I cannot see any events per se, which I understand since these add on switches are not the "smart" end of the marriage.
I've sent them an email via their support page... Hopefully they answer in a timely manner. I really do not want to have to pull these all out and start over.
So, it turns out, these Honeywell switches are perfectly fine and this was operator/installer error.
I had an electrician buddy of mine come over today and we took out the Honeywell switches to see what might be going on and discovered that the Neutral was improperly marked/missing in several of my switch boxes. In all but one, we were able to solve the problem by tracking down the neutral and properly wiring the circuit (these are set up as 3 way switches). In one box, the neutral was missing and there was no easy way to get one over to that box, so the lights connected to that switch became a single switch with no 3 way capability. We removed the slave switch from the opposite wall because I would rather not have a switch there than one that stops working when the lights are set at 100%.
So, at the end of the day, I can give these Honeywell switches my 100% blessing as they all work as intended and they are $5.00 cheaper than the GE versions of the same switch.
This is where a Lutron Caseta Pro hub and Pico remotes can help you. I realize itβs a $100 or so investment but I and many other community members love the Pico remotes. I personally have been able to put wall switches in places where running wires is impossible since the Picos can mount via wall bracket and look like a standard wall switch.
In your case you could put a Pico remote in that switch location and still control the light.
