Unfortunately I have the Zcombo units in three bedrooms and garage, and two Nest Protects (kitchen and hallway). So a mixed bag, and only the Nest units are interconnected. I was on just starting to replacing all my Zcombos w/Nest Protects when Google killed things and so stopped part-way along as I didn't want to end up w/the Nest units and no Smarthome integration, and didn't want to have to rely on listeners.
So I'm currently waiting to see if we actually get some sort of approved Nest integration option from Google, in which case I'll replace all my Zcombo's w/Nest Protects and be done and have an interconnected and HE integrated solution. Key issue is that my family strongly prefers the Nest units to the Zcombos, due to the friendlier voice messaging on the Nest Protects, so an option that uses them what they really want.
If Nest integration doesn't happen, I'm thinking I'll either find a Zwave interconnected system and replace everything w/that, or if that isn't a good path, get a dumb interconnected system (as you noted) and use one or two of the Ecolinks (for backup/increased saftey) to get me HE integration. Either way I'll have a fight w/my family about losing their beloved Nest Protects, but I'm tired of having a mixed system that doesn't communicate, and clearly it's also not as safe as I'd like it to be.
I see they also have a Zigbee model as well, I would prefer the Zigbee model as I have almost all my devices as Zigbee with a strong Zigbee mesh. Anybody used the Zigbee version in HE?
Kiddie makes an alarm with voice, although probably not as informative as Nest (the Nest voice will tell you which alarm detected smoke).
My wish list: wireless interconnect, some means to communicate with Hubitat but not dependent upon it, wired or battery options, voice. Dual ionization and photoelectric. CO detection.
I hope it would work better than the Nest Protect... While I'm sure I'm in the minority, there are a non insignificant # of people that had horrible results with them (based on nest forum posts).
Understood. I have been happy with mine until it started false alarming, and the Nest people said I needed to put it in a different location than where smoke alarms (including Nests) have been for 35 years without a false alarm. In other words, as Steve Jobs said ... I was holding it wrong.
It also isn’t lost on me that Google keeps records of when I walk down the hallway for 18 months.
I had a similar bad experience with Nest when they had a system outage all 3 of my Nest smoke detectors fell offline and 1 would not rejoin.
They worked fine before but Nest support told me to go buy a new one.
Never again.
Instead of replacing expensive smoke detectors every 10 years better to replace cheap ones and use an ecolink.
Oh, I didn't see that before I bought the Z-wave one (which is arriving Monday). I'd love to know if anyone is using the Zigbee version (for the same reason - almost all my devices and repeaters are Zigbee).
@jlv
I have the Z-wave one, problem is I have seen a few of these that look exactly the same, some branded as Heiman and some not. I have "one" that is not branded on the device but is labeled as Heiman on the box. What I am finding is that it shows the battery level, clear and that is that, when I press the test button nothing logs or changes in the HE. her is my data from the data section. If you have a look it says manufacturer:608 ?
Having just migrated all my zwave devices from my C-4 to my C-7, I just think of how much more work it would have been had I had zwave smoke detectors.... 13 (minimum) extra trips up/down the ladder to unpair/pair over again. No thanks!
So first all the concerts I wanted to go to this Summer get delayed til Summer 2021, and now we'll have to wait til then to maybe see a hard-wired Z-COMBO? Thanks a lot covid...
