Smartthings Zigbee Devices die after battery goes dead

Does anyone know why when the battery goes dead in a Smartthings Zigbee device the device will never work again? I have 3 presence sensors no longer work after battery died replaced battery and and can't get anything out of them. Just had 3 Smartthings Zigbee buttons die and same thing replaced the batteries and they will not even power up again.

I know other people with the same issues. It's like a time bomb in the unit if the battery dies it destroys the unit.

Anyone else have this issues?

Thanks,
Rick

Have you tried reincluding them?

Sounds like he's getting no response even when putting new battery in. I would have a similar response to my iris v2's but a factory reset still worked.

I've seen something similar with cygnett branded motion sensors, everytime a battery would die i would replace it and re-add the device but they would continually disconnect and just be unreliable. I ended up removing and replacing them with something else. They did work fine with the original batteries for ages aswell.

Might there be a "factory reset"? Perhaps holding in a/the button when you install the battery.

I have a lot of these and never experienced this.

When you insert the new battery, a green LED on the front should light up. If it does, this would mean that the sensor is still working. If not, either the battery or the sensor is defective…. I would start by checking the battery voltage, then maybe a new battery.

i have tons of these.. they do drop of the net when the batteryh is dead.. you simply goto hubitat put it back in zigbee insclusion mode once the new battery is in.. hit the little button on them to reinclude and they should include to the exact same deivce/locations..

coiuld you have put the batteries in backwards.. the light should flash when you put a new in.

I have heard that some of the Smartthings sensors are fussy about the brand of battery used. I think it may have to do with minor differences in battery size. Try Panasonic batteries if others do not work.

Press the button on the sensor immediately after installing a new battery. That has always worked for me. I have a variety of Smartthings sensors: motion, multisensor, and leak detector. I have never had one fail.

I’ve had one button die but I’ve had many others where the battery has died and just replacing it did the trick. Sometimes I’ll hit refresh on the device page to see that the battery goes to 100%.
