I have a bunch of these and they are all showing unknown for the contact sensor on dashboards. When looking at the device. I dont see a status for the contact sensor. all that is listed is
acceleration
battery
Tempature
which are working. The type is set to "SmartThings Multipurpose Sensor V5". I have removed and added back a few and havent gotten anywhere.
Two ideas: if you changed the driver (maybe it didn't detect it correctly on pairing), click "Configure" after you change it. Maybe click it twice just to be sure (especially if you're using a mobile device where in my experience I'm not always sure it registers my touches). Even if you didn't change the driver, maybe click it just to be sure. 
Other than that, have they actually experienced an open/closed event since pairing? Try removing and replacing the magnet (not sure if that's what you've meant). I'm not sure about these exact ones, but some devices won't show an attribute until a related event actually happens.
It worked! Guess the only time I opened the windows was to reset the sensor and shut them again before I added them. It took a few minutes to show after I opened and closed the window. Thanks for your help!
