Would it be possible please to add Motion as a capability for the SmartThings Multipurpose Sensor V5 (to be set Active when acceleration is active) so that I can use it in a motion zone?
Oh someone moved this thread. Was the built-in driver forum section only for bug reports or what?
Makes sense to me, you are making a feature request....
As a workaround can you create a new virtual motion device then a rule that sets it to active/inactive when "acceleration" state becomes active/inactive?
It's been a little while since I used that sensor..
I have got around it, but it's not as neat as if I could have used the sensor directly. For example Aqara has a vibration sensor (which detects similar action to acceleration) and conveniently the driver writer has added Motion, which basically gets active when vibration is sensed. Makes it very flexible. The SmartThings one is also a contact sensor which is why I use it for both vibration and opening in some places. (vibration/acceleration for if someone is trying to actually break the glass)
I would argue both acceleration and opening could be considered motion in this context....
But.... From a HE perspective... the driver would need to present it this way... Zone Motion Controller App should not change... Which I know was not the request, just saying....
Modifying ZMC to handle acceleration and (maybe) also open/close would make it much more flexible without having to modify existing drivers and still keep the "spirit" of the app.
Although I think the new "Room" paradigm is slowly taking over everything so that might be where the change happens..
And what about pressure pads? They tend to be used to detect people in an area. Some people might want to use them in a motion zone
Hmmm... Now that you both mention it.... it makes sense to centralise the concept of "motion" without requiring developers to build it in to their device drivers, given users get the chance to select devices to include in the zone
It may require a slight change in the naming of the app, to be more accurate...
The Aggregate option for motion zones does allow a wider range of sensors, but the trigger to start the activation period still has to be Motion capability. So if I had 100 acceleration sensors all detecting an intruder and the one motion sensor didn't go off first, Motion Zone controller would not be interested
And I'd support that change
