Looks like Smartthings is implementing a fee for all developers starting Oct.

IMHO this is the final nail in the ST coffin. From promising local control for 8 years to dropping support for many devices via their gen 4 hub without Z-wave. Without developers writing drivers for free, I don't think the platform would be where it is today.
I'm sure HA will pickup the stragglers.

It’s sad to see, especially since SmartThings got me into IoT in the first place. I was so excited when I got that original hub from the 2012 Kickstarter.

I left when they deprecated the V1 hub requiring users to buy a new hub with no option to migrate devices while also pushing out groovy and requiring all my custom drivers and apps to be rewritten.
Hopefully, once they do finally go under, it will get rid of the unused app on my Samsung phone that keeps trying to insert itself into my notification panel.
Samsung is starting to follow the Google business model: Removing apps and features that many chose them for in the first place
-magnetic swipe emulation for tap to pay - Gone so I stopped using their app
-Dex Mode on tablets - No longer recognizable or useful. Will be going back to an actual laptop, non Samsung, once this one is ready for replacement in a year or so
I could go on and on. But, it is a self inflicted wound that is losing them customer loyalty. The only reason I haven't switch phones is due to the built in secure folder. I am not confident that this is something that will stay either. If that goes, I won't have another samsung device in my house.

I think you mean that it's the final piece of wood without a nail in it... Because (some) people have been putting the last nail for 10 years, and still find a place for one more.

This!!! Was such a great feature.
Especially in the area I live in where (deep in the sticks) where mom and pop places won't pay to install NFC readers. I don't swipe for security reasons. The magnetic simulator gave the same level of protection (single transactional code) for those that chose not to allow NFC (oh and Wal Mart has eaten 3 of my cards even with the nontouch chip reader - literally gouged the surface so badly it just wouldn't work)

smartthings app is not just for hub unfortunately it lets me monitor and firmware update my q990d soundbar system

That is why they are still gaining users, despite everything they do. They make lots of hardware that integrates with SmartThings, so people who want to use their new Samsung smart appliances use SmartThings, but now they don't even need to buy a hub in most cases, which are not made by Samsung anymore anyway. Now they are even baking in hub features to their high-end refrigerators, washers, and dryers.
SmartThings is not a place for home automation enthusiasts anymore, it is for the average user who buys their appliances. Clearly the number of new appliance buyers outnumbers the people who are leaving SmartThings for better home automation hub platforms.

I get that. My gripe is that every few updates, it winds up back in my notification bar - even though the only Samsung devices I have left are my phone and my tablet.
To be fair, the phones are nice and the tablet was up until they destroyed the OG DEX. But the taste they left in my mouth was that they give a rat's behind about their loyal customers.

The fridge ice maker would be the first thing they need to fix if loyal customers is actually a thing. It’s probably the worst design from Sammy that I know off.

Or commercial entities who have created unofficial cloud based integrations, like if there are still any third party dashboards out there that use the cloud API.
HubiThings Replica going pay-to-play was not on my bingo card this year…but the Home Assistant community melting down absolutely was. It will be fun to watch.

This blows my mind. About ten years ago I got a PayPal reader that worked with Apple Pay It was either free or less than $100. Most businesses at the time did not take Apple Pay, but my little gallery was ahead of the curve. You can update for a low cost. Why wouldn’t you?
Anyway, Not a real response, just a WTF people. 
As for Walmart… F them. I don’t want your app that only works in your store. You already track me well enough without your proprietary BS.
Same thing for Home Depot. They worked with Apple Pay when it first came out, but turned off the functionality. WTF‽ I think they may have now enabled it again, but I haven tested it recently. If they did, it was years before they did.
Sort my phone out if tou think that, its a constant fight between Samsung, Google to decide what they want me to have on my phone and I’m stuck in the middle of it, so it just sits there hanging about whilst I use an old Nokia G21, that obeys me

And these are all installs, not necessarily "active"?
UPDATE: I think I read that wrong - 643,040 is the total of people that enabled basic analytics, they don't report on total installations.
