I'm looking for ideas to automate my driveway gate beyond what normal ghost control gate can do. The gate is located about a half a mile from the house but it's covered with Wi-Fi and has 120v & 12v power. I currently have a ghost control opener and have liked at the ismart gate controller.
Here's what I would like:
Gate code controlled through hubitat like a door lock (visitor, time limiting, ect)
A keypad mounted on a post to make 1 happen
Keypad needs to communicate over Wi-Fi unless there's a way to extend zigbee or zwave to location
This would provide a log of what code was used, when it was used, and provide notification of someone's arrival.
I don't have a gate but I do have an "outbuilding". I have wi-fi there, linked to my house via a wireless access point. I have KASA wi-fi devices in the out-building and some Blink cameras. They are on the network and the hub sees them like any other LAN device.
If your gate "wi-fi" is linked to your home wi-fi, you might be able to do something similar.
I like your project challenge. I have some similar objectives I have been mulling.
The first thing that comes to mind is that with all the power infrastructure in place how about broadening your capability at the gate. With proper enclosure in reasonable summer shade I'm thinking the following:
Bridged Router or Access Point that allows multiple things to be plugged in
An inexpensive second hand HE C-5 for local device communication
IP Camera
Beams, Motions, Contacts (gate, mailbox, etc.)
Keypad
P.S.
Would enjoy hearing how you arrived at Ghost and if you like it. I was looking at all this 18 months ago and thought THAT was the one until I ran across some negatives (that i frankly don't recall) but had me thinking I hadn't found the best solution yet.
