I'm looking for an on/off solution for an outdoor flood light. Dumb fixture with constant power, with Sengled zigbee smart bulbs but I need a switch recommendation.
Hoping for a surface mount/battery powered switch, preferably with native drivers in HE.
I don't believe the bulbs are dimmable. Is there a simple on/off switch that would work for this application? From the intended switch location, you can't see whether or not the bulbs are on, so it needs to be obvious at the switch whether it's in the on or off position.
Any button could be used...the Zooz ZEN34 is also a "switch" styled button option and there are other similar ones out there. I think the problem would be the feedback of whether or not the lights are on. I'm not sure of any buttons with a mechanical style lever nor any that have a constantly powered LED for notification.
Yes exactly. The issue is feedback as to whether the light is on without having to walk behind the house to see if it's on. Interacting with the switch needs to be pretty idiot-proof.
The problem is that you don't know if the light is on until you go outside. I'm going to wall-mount the button. So you push the button and go outside. Then you have to go back inside if the light isn't on.
I guess another solution is to have 2 buttons......one that's strictly for "ON" and one that's "OFF".
I would just use something like the ZEN34 then. It's designed like a regular switch, but functions as a button in Hubitat. I have one that I use as an extra switch for some hall lights.
While Sengled does make one and it will pair with Hubitat, it doesn't seem to work very well at all.
The other two have pretty solid feedback on the community but the Sengled gets pretty bad reviews.
Just make sure if you buy the Sengled, get it from somewhere with a good return policy and test, test, test as soon as you get it.
That's disappointing. I bought some ThirdReality buttons and they are extremely inconsistent with double taps. Was hoping the Sengled's would be better.
It's entirely possible the Sengled may work fine for you (ZigBee being what it is) but the other two seem to have a better user experience.
There was a deal locally on the Sengled (65% off) a while back so I did a bunch of searching through threads and in the end decided to pass on the opportunity.
