Shower timer

Afternoon all,
I’m looking for some suggestions on the setup of a “shower timer” that effectively cuts power to the instant HWS after a pre determined time, I see it looking something like:

. Activate / trigger - not too sure on this one yet
. Delay / wait 10 mins
. Fade hue bathroom light to 20% over 2 mins (as a warning)
. Delay wait 2 mins then turn off to link Kasa switch (HWS plugged into this)
. Delay / wait 5 mins then reactivate switch

Some ideas on the activation side would be awesome, I did try to use the Kasa’s energy monitoring capacity to activate without any luck (doesn’t update power usage reliably enough)

I could go with a Hue dimmer as a point of activation, however I’d really like to see the activation occur without intervention

In the bathroom I have:
Exhaust fan connected to a hue switch
Konke zigbee humidity sensor
Hue motion sensor
Hue downlight

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, might just be easier to get rid of the teenagers that think a quick shower is 40 mins :joy:

We have a Tankless hot water system and for me it would be easy. Ours is Propane, but it is plugged in and I have a Aeotec smart plug on it. When the hot water heater starts up it goes from 0 to about 25 watts. It has exhaust fans that run. It updates almost immediately.

Of coarse if anything else is using hot water it would be difficult to distinguish.

I use an Aeotec multisensor z-wave device in the shower. It detects motion (and conveniently humidity). I use it to control the bathroom fan. Turn fan on when motion starts, turn fan off 30 min after motion stops. Works great. It's above the level of the shower water and it's been there for a couple years just chugging away.

I have a Zooz multi-sensor and it does well for this also. With a rule using all the things available, hot water on, time of day, day of week, humidity, motion, lights you should be able to tell if someone is in the shower.

That's pretty good!

I have a similar setup, I did go down this avenue originally, however power detection wasn’t great ( possibly the to link is not great)
I’ll play a little more and see how I go.
