Show me the light

Hi all.

I am in the process of setting up my Hubitat C-7 , just 3 month into it now and still trying to understand how it all works.

I noticed that the Aqara Motion Sensor pir sends back a illuminance reading.

As this is something I was going to purchase, I was wandering is it possible to use this somehow, maybe as a virtual device whilst still using it as a pir.

This device will only report illuminance when motion is detected so I personally do not use the illuminance function. I have a dedicated illuminance sensor that I use for lux readings for my rules.
You could probably use it somehow but it's not something I've tried.

Oh.
Thank you. I will take that into account.
I will give that a go.

I thought it would be more complicated than that.
Maybe I am just over thinking it.

The only thing I can think of that might be a problem is if you use motion and lux reading to turn on a light in the room the sensor is in.
Lets say you are in the room moving about and the light is on. If motion retriggers it will give a lux reading that is the room light level with the light on. When you leave the room, motion goes inactive but the lux reading remains the same as if the light is on.

Now when you enter the room if the new lux reading is delayed (light off reading) your rule might run before a new lux level report comes in and think that the level is too high and not turn the light on.

Just me thinking aloud...........

Worth a try though and it also depends on how you are going to use the sensor.

EDIT: Thinking about this some more, it may work OK because if you use this device with its own hub, you can use the lux reading and motion in their rules. So it may work OK.

Thank you,
I appreciate the thought you have put into that, there's a lot to understand, more than I initially imagined.
I think I will give it a go and if nothing else I will learn so much in all the mistakes I make, well that alone makes it worth it.
