Currently I have my legacy ADT sensors connected to Konnected so I can "see" all of the sensors in HE. So now I want to config HE so if a door is left open for x minutes, I get an alert. What's not clear to me is if I should implement this with a rule in RM or HSM. For those who know both, which would you recommend?
My recommendation would be neither.
The Notifications app is the easiest route. That said, Rule Machine is also capable of this, and recent-ish feature additions make it pretty easy too if you know what to click.
HSM is probably not the best choice for this, especially if you don't want to deal with HSM "armed" (or not) states.
Oh never consider that option, thanks!
You could also do this super easily in Basic Rules. I tend to use that for anything that doesn't need complex logic. Things like closet contact sensor open, turn on closet light. Turn back off when closed.
I did not mention Basic Rule since there isn't an intuitive method to get the "for x minutes" thing, unless something has changed since the last I recall.
You might be thinking of the older simple automation rule app. I think Basic Rule has had it since the beginning.
Sounds like I did indeed recall incorrectly.
I do it this way... (so that I have a button that will cancel the alert so we can leave the doors open but it resets when doors are closed)
