Three days ago I got parcels delivery to my house and as usual they were left at the side of my car since drivers don't feel like walking the 300ft passageway and climbing the 96 steps to get to my door. I'm ok with that because living in the middle of nowhere there is hardly any risk. Anyway I have cameras watching and alerting me of things happening down there. But this time, watching the delivery, I saw the guy taking out 3 parcels from his truck, placing them on the ground beside my car, taking the picture and then... picking the heaviest box back to his truck.
So evidently 3 parcels were marked as delivered by the carrier but only two were effectively here.
After calling the company and telling them I had footage of what happened, the investigation lead to the missing package being delivered to me the next day.
If that wasn't enough. Today I receive another delivery. This time, in an envelop which was... open and empty. I guess the driver thought I ordered an envelop because he did the leave on the ground and picture dance without a flinch.
Not too long ago, they would barely leave anything at the house - you needed to drive to one of the industrial parks to get it at their shipping centerâŚ
I recall once where the package included 2 boxes. One for a new computer case which the didnât leave a the door, and another with thousands of dollars worth of innards for a new PC which they did leave at the door⌠lol
I have had the same problem occur REPEATEDLY with my Amazon deliveries. I have filed multiple complaints as packages have been stolen by porch pirates following the delivery vans/cars. My delivery instructions always indicate that packages are left at the back porch where they are less likely to be pilfered. Recently, I even posted a sign on the front door to NOT leave packages there but to follow the delivery instructions. Even with the sign, the lazy delivery people just drop the packages at the base of the front porch, then (even more egregiously) indicate on the Amazon delivery status that the package was left according to and quoting the delivery instructions (IOW lying).
To Amazonâs credit, they did replace some (luckily) relatively low cost items at no charge when I proved via my Hubitat triggered camera footage that the packages had been âliftedâ. Unfortunately, after one year of this (they used to follow directions prior to this) and a number of stolen packages, nothing has come of this. I suspect that the delivery people are under such pressure from Amazon to get packages out so quickly that they just donât care, and Amazon just considers this part of the cost of doing business.
Recently, my Hubitat integration with my Camect has served me more as a package delivery system than its intended purpose as a security device. Fortunately, because of the object recognition capability of Camect, Hubitat is able to contact me when I am away when a package is delivered as well as which door it was left at (it can also specify if it is Amazon, USPS, Fedex etc due to its excellent object recognition). Who knew this would be the âmainâ utility of this integration when I set it up 4 years ago? Sad state of affairs that this has become so common that no one seems to care.
Do you live in a high-rise in Chaudière-Appalaches? "Middle of nowhere" and such an elaborate approach to your place seems weird. Maybe you're in a villain's lair!
Anyway, I also live in an extremely rural area and Amazon recently started using less UPS and more their own thing (in my area OnTrac) and I can say without hubris that OnTrac sucks. They mostly just huck things over the six foot fence and don't bother to drive to the front door when the gate is open 24/7.
I got so irritated that I said goodbye to Amazon and hello to WalMart+ and NewEgg a few months ago. So far so good.
You might also think about putting a mini-fridge stocked with snacks by your door and signs at the bottom of the stairs saying as much. Give your delivery drivers a little reward for perseverence.
The worst I usually get is it being left at a neighbors house instead. Few weeks ago I had to knock on a door in my PJ's and explain why I was on their porch...lol
A couple years ago I was having cataract surgery and the Doctor sent the eye drops I would need before and after from Fort Worth to Justin, TX (about 20 miles) overnight with FedEx. They never delivered them to me. They were delivered to a Verizon phone rehab facility about 10 miles from his office. FedEx used to be good. they absolutely suck the last three or four years. FedEx never fixed it and I had to pay for another batch of eye drops .
