Shield TV hubitat stick similar to smartthings link

Hi Hubitat team,

I'm currently a SmartThings user via the link hub connected to my shield TV is there anything in the works for hubitat?

Would love it if I didn't need another hub and I could just connect a stick to my shield TV and run everything off of that.

My opinion is I doubt that something like this will be available. ST did it because their processing power is done in a cloud server, Hubitat does it internally/local so they will need a big USB stick and the ST app is installed on the Shield but Hubitat doesn't have an app yet and when they release it will not configure your hub devices, it will be a fast access to your dashboards and geofencing plus notifications. Very different devices ST and HE.

Cant HE use the Shield to do the local processing and just have the stick be a zigbee/zwave antenna etc.

Should be great but that will be a big NO from the management. They don't have any plans to give the software to install it anywhere, just in their controlled environment, and I totally understand. It's so much additional work for just a few users, ST launched the ST stick for Shield how many years after they started in business?

The upside is a cheaper entry into the market for folks that have processing power via another device already. Hubitat already has usb sticks, just need software installed on shield or other devices.

Ahh, but the USB is a radio only, the new hub doesn't have the USB, ST stick actually is a hub

Hubitat is most likely never going to consider running their software on the Nvidia Shield TV as an option. I mean, they are almost giving away the hubs as it already is. They really don't need the headache of support calls trying to support Shield users whose Nvidia firmware update breaks things. And what happens if the user factory resets their Shield? They'd lose everything since Hubitat doesn't store anything in the cloud.

A single device, designed and used for a single purpose is always going to be more reliable. Just buy a Hubitat Elevation and start enjoying what it is today, versus worrying about it could be!

Not to mention, a best/better practice is to put the hub as centrally located as possible in the home. Often entertainment centers are poor choices for HA hubs both in terms of location in the home, and in interference with other devices/cabinet signal dampening.

Another reason you might not want to do that, even if it were an option (which it isn't.)
