Setup Wizards

There are certain basic tasks that we surely have all had to create. Setup Wizards (scripts) could help the adoption rate of less advanced users.

I know there isn't much difference between a wizard and some of the apps like simple lighting, but it's all in the user interface. One obvious Wizard would be the Bathroom Light; to do it right you need a dimmer/switch, and motion and contact sensors. Leading a new user by the nose on that one issue will help them get started fast and up the Household Acceptance Factor, HAF.

My kids are just as picky as my wife, and so am I for that matter, so WAF doesn't cover it for me.

Having a Wizard UI available would reach a whole new audience.

Providing an interface where users can create those wizards would also be cool... and hard to implement.

Just my thoughts.

Agree 1000%

I still laugh when I hear that term.
It must have been so cool when the person first named it a wizard.

I'm a nerd and therefore don't need a wizard. But I do think that the app could use an upgrade in their UI. Though I'm not complaining, because the UI is still better then programming it all yourselves. But I don't see my wife doing anything with this at the moment. Not that she can't, be more that she won't.

I wouldn't need them either, most of us here are pretty far along the technology learning curve. I was looking at the data page for a rule and realized they are just stored in a data base, so there could be other user interfaces to populate that database. The first thing that came to mind is a installation wizard. Those would help the less programming experienced get started. It could also cut down on support calls as the rule logic would be limited to what the setup wizard allows. Ok, that gif is making me snicker everytime I type wizard. So these guided setup scripts would help new users and the Hubitat staff. emm.. Guided Setup Scripts... nah Setup Wizard stays. Just an idea, that's what this forum category is for.
