I have Sengled bulbs and manually have to change color for holidays and other events. I wanted to program a button to quickly change the color for each event but do not see how this can be done. Any thoughts on a way to do this would be appreciated.

You could try the button controller built-in app, if you haven't already.... Along with potentially the Groups and Scenes built-in app.
I had tried the button controller as I used that in the past but could not get it to find the bulbs as its not an option so think I might need to create a group for the three bulbs then scenes for each holiday? Not sure but its looking more like that is the way I have to go
That sounds odd, though obviously your experience. Some screenshots of your attempts to use the app map be useful, and may be something the developers are interested in.
That's what "scenes" are for so it sounds like you are on the right track. The button controller will allow you to select the appropriate scene device I think.
In my den I have 8 sengled recessed bulbs in a group. The nice thing about that is I can use the "Zigbee Group Messaging" feature which makes lighting changes occur almost simultaneously.
