I'm considering getting the Linptech Presence Sensor ESI for a practical reason: to light up the area under our main bedroom bed when someone gets up at night. I will do this with a webCoRE piston.
However, I have a couple of concerns:
Sensitivity: I'm worried the sensor might be too sensitive and activate with even slight movements. Ideally, I'd prefer it to only trigger when someone sits up and then stands up.
Pet Presence: We have a cat who freely roams around the room, jumping on the bed and window sill. I'm concerned about the sensor mistaking the cat's movements for someone getting up.
So, my question is, can the Linptech Presence Sensor ESI be adjusted through Hubitat settings to prevent triggering in these specific situations?
Any suggestions or insights would be greatly appreciated.
It has adjustments for motion activity and static activity sensitivity, but I haven't ever really played around them (no need to). So much of this is environment-dependent, so no matter what advice you get here, it's really going to boil down to testing it for yourself.
The cat thing may be a show-stopper -- it doesn't have zones or any kind of pet-mitigation capability. It's pretty basic in the options it offers.
I agree with @TArman -- This device doesn't seem like it's ideal.
It is a 24ghz device and as such, the RF goes right through glass, walls and fabric. Which is perfect for simply detecting a heartbeat-in-a-room. I have a device facing a shower, used to extend the Off timing. So the light doesn't turn off when someone's in the shower. This works far better than PIR because of it's frequency.
Same for a bedroom where I prevent the lights from changing if there's a human detected. When I walk into that room, if there's no one already in there, the scene comes on. If there is a person already, nothing happens.
I don't think this particular device has the features you desire.
An acquaintance of mine, from years ago, rigged up a pair of pressure operated switches and put one under each leg of his bed’s headboard.
I don’t remember how he made them “strong” enough, but if both he and his wife were both in bed, both were closed. If one exited, his/her switch opened.
He was a sleep walker and it alerted his wife when he left the bed.
Using it for a “go to the bathroom” light would be a cool idea.
There was a recent post about some other options that might work better (A Survey of Hubitat's Bedroom Skills). The only possible placement I could see working is behind the headboard with the range dialed way down (though if the cat jumps up near the pillows then it will not matter).
I'm excited to give this a shot. I actually ordered one for a different purpose - to manage my office lighting. Once it arrives, I'll put your method to the test and share my findings with you.
