Seasonal Z-Wave Devices

I have 6 devices that I only use for a month in X-mas or a few months in the summer.
They always fail in Z-Wave repair (Duh!) but I'm wondering if it's better to leave them plugged in all year so as not to mess up the network or repair the network every time I disconnect them for long periods.
This would fix up the routing at least. 2 are battery powered so I don;t want to really leave them on for 8 months doing nothing; we all know about special 3.6vdc battery costs :wink:

Battery powered devices are end devices and don't participate in the routing mesh, so there shouldn't be any issue with pulling the battery from those anytime, as long as you don't have any rules or associations trying to send them messages.

As long as your other devices are z-wave plus and nothing is trying to send commands to the devices that are offline, I wouldn't expect it to cause a major problem to have them powered off. (Sometimes network repair can create problems that weren't there previously, so I wouldn't recommend a network repair unless there is a problem you are trying to resolve.)

Thanks.
I know the battery ones don't repeat but it's good to know I can just drop them. The rules get paused when I do that anyway.
The other devices are Z-Wave+ and again the rules (pistons) get paused as well so I'll just leave things the way I have; do nothing and walk away slowly. :wink:

Yes.. Mains powered devices should stay powered or be excluded until used again..

If instead of excluding the device, could I just mark the device as β€œdisabled” on the device page and unplug it?

No.. Disabling only stops the driver.. The device is still part of the mesh

@dnickel:
I expanded my plug in outlets for Halloween and Christmas and need to "put them away". My plan (still working on building it) is to mount a couple power strips to a plywood panel on hinges (so I can swing the whole thing up out of the way). Mount that to my basement joists and just plug all of them in there as storage until they are needed again. The Z-Wave mesh in my basement will be rock solid.
:smiley:
