Schlage Sense Pro Smart Deadbolt

Integration to Hubitat is limited to basic functionality, see DGBQ's reply to the original post.

If you need basic lock/unlock - than sure. If you need codes management - Apple security won't allow it.

Not the original poster.

I know that platform 2.5.1 added support for the U400. Perhaps @jkudave can add if that support extends to user code management, or if it is just lock/unlock. I vaguely recall Hubitat devs working on user code management for the U400.

If so, it should be possible to get that working with the Schlage Sense Pro.

Thanks for all the good info…. This community is why Hubitat excels above the rest in my opinion…..

Mike Maxwell added a dedicated Matter driver for Aqara U400 in the latest HE platform release, Including lock codes support via LCM. It works also with U200 models.

In Apple ecosystem there is a concept of Apple key.

Apple key is the main access credential for the lock. Once you have an Apple key to my lock in your wallet - you can unlock my lock by means of UWB, NFC or user code, governed by a set of rules for that Apple key.

User code is secondary. My locks have only one 8 digit master code as a backup solution.

Now, there are two ways of managing access: Apple Home OR Schlage App.

Obviously, Apple key can be issued by Apple Home only (Schlage App does it via AH)

User codes can be issued in Apple Home as well, but using Sense Pro with Schlage App outside of Apple Home is waste of money IMO (today) - you can get much cheaper Schlage model for that.

I don't believe Apple will allow third party access management, so integration with Hubitat will be basic.

Arilo promises to change that, but it remains to be seen.

I am using @kkossev Matter Advanced Bridge with the U400 in Hubitat.

Start at the post linked to above and read through the rest of the thread.

You can create an apple home on Hubitat then join lets say a homepod mini to it (and yes it's controllable by Home) then any matter device that needs a TBR has one.

All good info.... I am down to the Aqara U400 and the Schlage Sense Pro. I see clear advantages and disadvantages between both. The lower lock classification and flimsier build on the U400 concerns me. The lack of a physical key on the Sense Pro concerns me. The other features differences, rechargeable battery, fingerprint sensor aren't really a deal breaker for me... The price hurts on both... They are very comparable locks other than the features I mentioned above. I guess it all comes down to opinions of people that have used them... Thanks again for all of the good feedback!

I would not call the build on the U400 flimsy. It is not a full metal build like the Schlage, but that also is what keeps the cost down. It is built to server its purpose, nothing more, nothing less. It is still a good looking lock.

Also, I know allot of people have concerns about lock grades, but honestly in this day and age is it really a concern? If someone wants into your house, they are not going to be picking the lock (if it has a key) or kicking it in. They will find another easier way. It's no different, at least to me, than someone trying to break into a car.

Again, these are just my opinions, and I am not one to tell someone how to spend their money. I just don't think the Schlage is worth the extra money they are asking for it.

Good luck with your decision. Both are great locks. One is just a better value, in my opinion.

Yup. The path of least resistance is rarely the front door. And has often been noted - any house only has to be more secure than the house next door.

I have had some experience with Schlage Support in the past. They seemed "fairly" responsive. Has anybody had any interaction with Aqara Support?

They have two support channels:

  1. Online chat, which is pretty good.
  2. Email, which I've used in the past.

I don't know if they offer a call back support option any more, but they used to.

Edit: I forgot - like Hubitat, they offer support via their forum as well.

Never had a need to interact with them. Take that as a positive, I suppose.

I won't buy another Schlage smart product. I have struggled with the BE469ZP and eventually gave up and put in a Kwikset modified with a Schlage SC-1 cylinder (see saga below). So I got a more reliable lock and still had my Schlage key preserved (to match mechanical locks). I never liked the BE469ZP membrane keypad anyway.

In fairness others have had ok results from Schlage but I am pretty jaded. My experience is all ZWave but I suppose the Schlage smart lock design team is largely the same.

As for grade 1, 2, 3 I guess my thinking is a determined burglar won't be discouraged by any of these. Spending more on a deadbolt isn't going to improve your windows from being smashed or a crowbar on basement window, As they say ... a chain is only as strong as its weakest link....

Schlage BE469 Issues (Again) JS vs. ZIP - Get Help / Devices - Hubitat

I purchased a Schlage Sense Pro. I added it to Apple Home and finally got it threaded paired with Hubitat. In the device on Hubitat it shows up as “device” and doesn’t even have the lock and unlock functionality. Am I doing something wrong?

Change the device type to "Generic Matter Lock", then click on the Initialize button :

You should be able to lock and unlock the Schlage Sense Pro. If you operate it from Apple Home, the locked/unlocked status should be updated in Hubitat as well.

You can also try the inbuilt 'Aqara Smart Lock U400' driver :

Thanks for the idea! I will try U400 driver and see if battery is reported. Generic driver does not report battery % and I get 'unhandled attribute report' in logs.

As for anyone who tries to make a decision about Schlage Sense Pro - it is the best smart lock for Apple ecosystem. If you don't nave Apple watch on your wrist - Sense Pro is a waste of money IMO.
