Schlage BE489 integration in HE through Alexa

Not sure if this is possible, or if I'm even making any sense here. Please use your kiddie gloves - this is all relatively new to me.

I would like to control a Schlage BE489 Wi-Fi lock in HE. I realize that these locks are not supported in HE.

I am able to add this device into Alexa, and use Alexa to control the lock. Is there a way to set up a virtual button that triggers a command to Alexa to lock, or unlock the door?

I have the "Amazon Echo Skill", and "Echo Speaks" Apps installed, if that's helpful at all.

Does the Schlage integration with Alexa permit you to use the lock in Alexa Routines? If it does, you can control it from Hubitat using a virtual motion/contact sensor that is exposed to the Hubitat Amazon Echo Skill.

P.S. Also welcome to Hubitat!

Thank you! I was able to set up a routine in Alexa to lock the door when a virtual contact sensor in HE is triggered. There doesn't seem to be an unlock option available through the routines, but at least I can lock them. Thank you for reminding me to expose the sensor to the Amazon Echo Skill, or I would have been scratching my head for awhile.

Are virtual motion or contact sensors the only options to trigger Alexa routines, or am I able to use other virtual devices to trigger?

If you go to the device in Alexa you can set a pin for it; once that’s done it will allow unlocking using voice commands (will ask for the pin). They’ve (Amazon) just introduced Alexa custom commands that theoretically let you issue a voice command via a rountine that may enable you to get around the pin issue when automating (haven’t had a chance to play with it yet).

I tried the custom commands for my car that requires a pin. Alexa accepted it no problem.

Thanks! I had tried to set the unlock routine up with a custom command, but I guess I didn't have the command exactly as required by Alexa. I had to have Alexa issue the command "Open front lock with code xxxx", to get it to work.

The automation works great, but when the routine is triggered, Alexa will make an announcement "Unlocking, hang on", then "the front door is unlocked". Anyone know a way to silence the feedback from that command by chance?

Thank you for the responses!

My thought on the matter was to have a echo with the volume off..

I've got waaay too many of these things sitting around anyways. It really is a problem.

In that vein each Alexa rountine can have multiple actions so:

  1. Alexa Set Volume Zero
  2. Alexa Open Front Lock with Code xxxx
  3. Alexa Set Volume 4
