Schlage BE469ZP Locks not working well after C7 upgrade

Hello all,

I have 3 Schlage BE469ZP locks that were working very reliabily on my C5 hub. I clearly enjoy messing with things when everything is working fine and decided to upgrade to the C7 hub. Now 2 of my locks, the Patio Door Lock and the Front Door Lock require 2 commands before they lock or unlock. The first command does nothing no matter how long I wait. The second command immediately locks or unlocks.

I have a strong mesh and Leviton DZ6HD z-wave plus switches right beside each lock. Patio Fan is beside Patio Door Lock, Outside Lights - Front switch is beside Front Door Lock and Outside Lights - Side switch is beside Laundry Room Door Lock as well as an Aeotec Range Extender right by the Hub, inbetween the Front Door Lock and the Hub which are only about 20ft apart. However all the locks are taking odd routes to hub. Also notice only a single device, Glass Break Sensor, is using the Aeotec Range Extender which is right near the hub. Not sure if this is an issue or not. Also, the only devices that are z-wave and not z-wave plus are my 2 glass break sensors, everything else including all powered devices, are z-wave plus. Forcing a repair on each lock fails, probably becuase they are battery devices.

I'll post my z-wave details below; I'd really appreciate any tips to get these working as reliably on the C7 hub as they were on my C5 hub as was hoping the S2 encryption would help things not hurt things.

I believe what you are saying, but I’m not seeing it. Two BE469ZP locks, C7 with 2.3.4.153. Perhaps it’s an issue of lock firmware level.
One of mine has 0.10.9, other has 0.11.0.

Admittedly, the response isn’t instantaneous, takes about 3 sec before the lock responds. Tested just now from the device page. Each lock has a Ring Extender v2 a few feet away.

Can you turn on debug logging and then lock or unlock .. And post the log when it fails to respond and when it does respond on the second command..

Happy to!

Everything at 14:57 is from the first attemt that resulted in nothing happening. Everything at 14:58 is from the second attempt when the lock unlocked shortly after pressing unlock on my dashboard.

I know there were some older firmwares that were very problematic, I had one of them. I don't remember the exact firmware of these locks but they are newer and they worked perfectly on the C5 hub which would rule out a firmware issue no?

Might not be what you want to hear, but you could try the Reliable Locks app. I'm using it on my BE469ZP also on a C7. It has the option to try a command again after an adjustable amount of time if it didn't work.

I'll defintiely keep that in my pocket as a last resort but hope to find a fix to have them just work properly as they did on the C5.

I don’t know the answer to that. I had two BE469NX locks on my C-5 and changed out the electronics modules to convert them to BE469ZP (so I could use S2 pairing) when I got my C-7 and moved everything over to the C-7 when it came out. So, the NX locks were never on the C-7 and the ZP locks were never on the C-5.

As a thought, if they worked fine on the C-5, you could keep them on the C-5 and bring them over to the C-7 using Hub Mesh.

You have some high route changes on your front door lock... It's going directly to the hub. How far is the hub from the lock? You might wanna throw in a beaming repeater into the mix... Then you're patio lock routes through the patio fan to the hub... How far is the patio fan from the hub?

There is a beaming repeater right beside the front door lock and an Aeotec Range Extender between the Front Door Lock and the Hub. The front door lock is only 20ft from the hub too.

Yeah they aren't attaching to them....:frowning:

Also, when I try to do a z-wave repair, the front door lock, noed 5a (front door lock) is the only one that fails. But the lock works, it just needs two commands to do anything.

It's across the main floor from the hub but between the hub and the patio fan switch, there is the Aeotec Range Extender and another beamer repeater switch but it's choosing not to use either of them.

Yeah, it's a flirs device so it won't really repair like that.

But when I do a full z-wave repair, the other 2 locks don't indicate they were failed nodes.

Because they're ultimately ignored I believe. Similar to how most battery operated devices behave. I think locks are the exception in trying to respond...(@bcopeland can correct me on that if I'm wrong)

After the repair yesterday, the patio lock seems to be responding to the first command today which is odd becuase I've tried other z-wave repairs. The front door lock, however, still needs to commands every time to lock or unlock still.

I've had issues with my door locks on my C-7. The newer (S2) locks work better than the older S0 ones.

Some changes @bcopeland did many versions back seemed to help with S2 locks as I recall.

In any case, I use an app that retries until they actually lock. Locks are too important to leave to chance.

Yes all of these locks are S2 so it's surprising they are working not as well as when there were SO on three C5

@bcopeland , did you see anything in these logs that might help me? Really odd that all 3 of my locks are the same model and the one that requires 2 commands to lock or unlock is close to the hub and connected directly to it vs the other locks being further away and using being/repeaters.
