Schlage just replaced my lock under warranty. I have connected to the hub and everything seemed fine. Now, I can’t control the lock, it won’t respond to any commands lock, unlock add or delete codes. When I look at the zwave settings they are now blank, but when I look under the device they are still showing up. I do get notification when the lock state changes and it gets battery updates, so I know it is still communicating with the hub. I have reset and repaired it, it works for a couple of days then zwave goes out again. Any thoughts on what could be the issue?
Did you exclude the lock from the hub after resetting it? Or did you just force delete the lock device on the hub?
If you have not excluded he lock, you have likely created multiple ghost devices. There is no way to visualize these (and remove them) on a C-5 (or older model Hubitat) without using a secondary controller, like PC Controller.
How close was the hub and lock when you included the lock? It appears it might have been a partial pairing.
I would try to delete this device, factory reset the lock (on the lock itself) and try including it again when you are within about a foot of the lock.
:+1
@Aggolden To confirm, can you please post your z-wave details page?
As @neonturbo said, the lock needs to be paired within a foot or 2 of the hub because it does a security whisper.
It is a C5, so probably won't help much.
Thank you all, I did do a force remove. So I will have to look at getting a stick and removing it that way. The literature on that looks goods, so hopefully I can work through it.
Every device in the zwave list is accounted for.
Thank you all again for your input.
If you power down the lock, you should be able to remove the ghost. (make sure you don't have any other ghosts if you get a stick)
Are you saying that I can get rid of the ghost with just powering down the lock? Or power it down and then run the stick? I assume you mean the latter, but don’t want to miss a simpler fix.
Powering down the locks will do nothing on the C-5. On the C-7, it helps tremendously with removing ghosts.
I had ghost locks on my C-5, and even after they powered down, they weren't removed as part of the periodic z-wave radio db cleanup. I ended up removing them using PC Controller.
Edit: Using PC Controller with the C-5 is actually very illuminating. I had a total of 7 ghost and stranded nodes that didn't show as nodes in the z-wave table displayed by the hub, But showed up in PC Controller. So I removed each one in PC Controller, and after doing so, the difference in hub performance and stability was night and day.
I used the stick and removed three ghost nodes ( all locks). I then unpaired, reset, and reconnected the lock. The next day the lock was showing the same blank Zwave details as posted originally. I double-check and no ghost nodes are showing up. I am going to reach back out to Schlage, but if anyone has any ideas, I will try them
They are an edge device. Can they be controlled via the device page? I would put a beaming repeater next to it then exclude/reinclude the lock to force the routing. I recommend the Ring v2 extender.
I replaced my lock on Saturday with an Alford lock. It was working fine yesterday, today the zwave detail have gone blank just like the schlage lock that I replaced in the original post. I still get notifications, but no control.
When you paired it how close were you?
Within a couple of feet. If it didn’t “whisper” correctly, why would it work for 3 days?
You might throw a beaming repeater in nearby
I didn’t get a beaming repeater yet, but I removed and reconnect the lock and kept the hub about foot from the lock when I reconnected it to the network and kept it there. The hub dropped the lock sometime over the next two hours. The hub is the closest device to the lock. Since I am having this issue with two different brand locks, I am starting to think it is the hub (c-5) . It may be time to upgrade….
You could use a z-wave stick to inspect the radio database to see if any ghosts are present. (Easier todo in the c7 with built in though)
I have done that previously and found some ghost and removed them, but that was before I got the second lock. I have checked since and no ghost hanging around.
New scenario, I am still showing a zwave connection, but can’t control the lock. I still gets alerts. I was able to turn on the debug log…
This really still feels like a mesh issue. If you still have the stick, I'd check your database again.
