Scenes are screwy

I have three different scenes set in simple automation rules
730am-500pm
500-730pm
730-1200am
For the most part they work ok. They turn on certain lights and different levels. But it seems that the last scene of the day is hit or miss. Sometimes the lights/plugs stay on, sometimes they cut off. Not consistent in behaviors.
What should I be looking at to fix this?

I really dont know of any other way to set this stuff up. Rule machine is just a bunch of black magic to me

How are you actually setting up the "scenes"? Using a Scene in the Group and Scenes app? If not, that is an easy way to get started and would be my recommendation. You can still activate this scene via Simple Automation Rules. (Room Lighting is a more powerful option and could probably do whatever you are doing all in one place, but it can be a bit more difficult to set up.)

If that doesn't work, you could be dealing with a device or mesh network problem. Sharing more information about the particular devices (protocol and brand/model, etc.) may help.

You should also look at turning on logging for both the rule and the devices involved, to try and see what may be happening.

Thank you for the suggestions. I finally sat down to dig into the scenes and room lighting. Wow, not so scary. I have a few times set up so I will see how things progress tomorrow.

On a separator note, If I set a scene with a button controller, party time, is there any way to NOT have the predefined room lighting times overwrite the current scene? And how would I resume the auto settings?

The short answer is yes, usually (for me) using a button controller app, a virtual switch and the limiting of activation and turning off in RL using the virtual switch. I'll try and find some examples if you still get stuck.
