First off I want to say this is probably not an issue with Hubitat but I'd like some troubleshooting tips to figure out why my 2018 Samsung Button is failing while re-seating the battery fixes itself.
If nothing works I'll contact Samsung or maybe connect it to my old ST hub and see if they have any OTA firmware updates for it... as if anything ever gets those...
I know the first thing to do is check the logs but tonight was my final test to prove yes re-seating the button on it's battery, waiting for the LED to turn off meaning it's done reconnecting viola it works.
I should have been watching the logs like a hawk as I tried to press it to no avail and then when I re-seated it.
I guess my first real question is does anybody with this button see this type of behavior?
If not has anyone seen this behavior with other battery powered switches?
I haven’t had any issues with mine, but I did notice the battery cover was a little loose after the first time I opened it. Maybe your battery isn’t seating correctly?
So SmartThings support has been ungodly slow.
They asked for my hub model number which I read them the Hub V2 Beta Tester model # and they had the gall to reply two weeks later asking me to reboot the hub.
Looking at the reviews on Samsung's website now a couple of weeks later I see almost all of the 1 star reviews describe the same problem as me.
I have a feeling I lost the silicon lottery along with those other unfortunate souls.
And those are just the ones that took the time to post a review...
So there is a firmware update for the Smart Button that fixes what me and other users have been experiencing.
The firmware is locked away in the latest hub firmware of SmartThings though.
Apparently my beta version of the Hub V2 hasn't been receiving updates for a while.
Even though I was told by a staff member that the hardware was nearly identical and I could continue to use it as if it were a regular Hub V2...
So there is a fix, I just have no way of getting the fix... Thanks SmartThings!
That settles it - I was thinking about getting some more of those buttons.
This brings up a larger issue, that of how to get firmware updates for end devices. Vendors want to lock you in by only providing updates through their ecosystem. I've seen the same thing in marine electronics too.
I wonder if people here who report success bought them slightly after me and have a newer firmware that came pre-installed.
I have a friend who agreed to pair it with his system and make sure it updates so hopefully it gets fixed.
To return the button I went to Samsung who sent me to SmartThings who sent me back to Samsung who needed to transfer me to SmartThings to corroborate my story...
I'll just fix it in a way that doesn't involve me giving them more money... Hopefully...
I would say the solution is to buy a clearance SmartThings hub, update the firmware on the button and then return the sucker. Or if it wasn't too expensive keep it as a firmware update device.
Not a great one but I don't see Hubitat pushing out any firmware updates to it...
It works perfectly now that it's updated.
Oh yea 0x00000011 is the version I updated. I don't see the firmware version anymore.
That's a bummer it still does that for you.
It seemed to fix mine.
Maybe check back to see if the ST hub updates it again?
Thanks, I'll connect it back to ST and double check it's on the right firmware, then maybe send it back to Amazon (it was an open-box item). Are you using the default Hubitat driver or one of the other ones floating around that was modified to reduce the multiple button presses?
I'm glad I am not the only one with this issue.. I have 2 Samsung buttons but 1 of mine periodically falls off the network it's done this from time to time ever since I got it but the other one I have has been rock solid.
