S2 bootstrapping - Unknown status code

I wish someone would. I can’t make myself do that either. That’s a lot of work to fix something that is caused by one of the biggest features of the C-8 (migration from older hubs without re-pairing). And who is to say it won’t happen again?

@bobbyD i may be in the same group. Started with a C5 to C7 to C8 to C8 Pro. Wanted to start using LongRange z-wave. Tried it on existing Zooz LR devices and SmartStart would not include. Used AI for troubleshooting and gave up after 2 hours. Bought an inexpensive LR door sensor to see if it was the equipment. It also would not include using SS for ZWLR. Finally Zooz tech support asked if I migrated from a previous HE unit. They then pointed me to this posting. So, I have a choice to either forgo ZWLR or delete everything and start from scratch. Then the question is, why oh why did I upgrade to the C8 Pro? I have now spent ~6 hours trying to figure out why ZWLR is not working. Rebuilding the HE dB, booting till the cows come home, excluding/including, moving the hub, moving a device, following directions point by point then repeating. Like some of you others, I have way too many devices and devices not easily accessible to fathom the thought of starting from scratch. Oh, the devices work fine for SmartStart standard mesh but not for LR.

**Update: just took back my C8 hub (that was used to migrate to the C8 pro) back to factory default. Tried the SmartStart LR inclusion and it included within 1 minute - so success. Are there plans by the gods of Hubitat to fix this issue (pretty please with sugar on top)? Sure beats doing this to another 80+ devices and all the apps, and other customizations that are now on the C8Pro.

So just came across this post when dealing with this exact error. I migrated from C5→C8→C8 Pro. I was trying to add a Ring Gen2 Contact Sensor and seeing the same Z-Wave device id: 0 failed S2 bootstrapping - Unknown status code - the device needs to be excluded then included again to use securely error. I was hoping for a better fix than to rebuild my entire Z-Wave network.

Your other options is pair it in mesh mode which should still work fine.

Yes normal mesh mode did work. I was wanting to use the LR to monitor my mailbox which is a good distance away. It is frustrating though they haven't found a fix for this in over 2 years.

Another option could be to factory reset the C8 and then pair LR devices on there, and use Hub Mesh to bring them over to the Pro. Sucks that its the only good way, but an option.

I was not planning on doing this but I was not using my C8, my plan was to put it in my shop as soon as I can replace all the V1 Iris devices I have. So I decided in the mean time I would see if a factory reset of my C8 would allow me to connect LR devices. It did. I had bought a ZES18 LR motion sensor and wanted to see if it would reach to my mailbox. The ZES18 connected right up in LR mode. Never could get it to connect in LR mode to my C8 or my C8 pro after migration from the C8. It turns out it was all moot as it will not quite reach the mailbox anyway. It's a little over 95’ from the hub location to the mailbox and it losses the signal about a foot or two from the mailbox. I have the C8 on Wifi and in a location that is closer than my C8 Pro would have been. So it looks like LR is not really anything I need anyway.

Sad that there appears to be no fix in the works for this…
