Rules ..certain this was answered....but couldn't find on a search

Hi.
This is my 1st day transition from IRIS. While i wasn't happy with some of the restrictions with IRIS - i'm starting to appreciate the configuration they did.
I have several lights that i turn on and off - several time a day.
As an example. My under cabinet lights. On at 5 AM, Off at 9 AM, On again at 5 PM, Off again at 9 PM. I can see that Rule manager has the ability to do this with 4 different commands...but that just 1 light. I plan on doing this with 4 or 5 lights...and while they all don't have to be exact, i didn't necessarily want them all on and off at the same time. My questions are:

  • is there any way to create an on / off schedule for a single device ( or group of devices) that doesnt' mean a separate rule for each event?
  • 2nd. with just the few rules I've set up so far - can can see that the rule manager is going to get congested in seeing whats really going on. Is there some way to group the rules together for easy visitation of whats going on? As an example, the rules i created were chronological, Kit Lights on at 5 AM , Kit Lights Off at 9 AM, Kit lights on at 5 PM, Kit lights Off at 9 OM....but it doesnt read that way on rule manager, rather Off at 9Am, Off at 9 PM, on at 5 Am , On at 5 PM.
    Appreciate any guidance.

It would be a wonderful thing and it has been requested - My suggestion was using tags and being able to sort/filter by them for both devices and rules (well maybe I said devices but rules would be great too!). We'll see what they come up with but not sure how high on the priority list it is since there seems to be a ton of other stuff to do first! The best thing to do as an alternative is to create a consistent naming convention something like this:
"Kit Lights 01 - on at 5 Am.."
"Kit Lights 02 - off at 9 Am.."
Should also consider naming your devices in a specific way too.. easier to look up once you get over a certain # of devices.. for example:

"Upstairs Front Room Closet Light"
"Upstairs Master Bath Shower Fan"

@macdenewf I would suggest you check out The native Simple Lighting app. The tedious stuff is done for you, behind the scenes, and it ends up being much cleaner on your apps page.

Appreciate the reply. I started on a naming convention already but hadnt thought about the use of incorporating numbers into the name to order them. That shoukd make it somewhat easier.

Will check that out. Thanks.

I use SL for the simple stuff too - it keeps it nicely separated from the RM rules. The issue is any additional logic will require the use of RM.

Just set one up. That was simple. Appreciate the suggestion.

Yes: Use the "Groups and Scenes" app. This allows you to create a single device that represents a "group" of other devices. So you can turn on this master device, and all of the child devices are also switched on, etc.

I don't know of any way of grouping the rules per se, but you can give them any name you want and they are listed alphabetically. So you could just number them or always start with a letter to order them, IE, the first rule could be named: "A - Kit lights at 5am" and then "B - Kit Lights Off at 9am" etc
